vRS Replica

Featured Replies

Just seen this whilst browsing that famous auction site, it's a 1.4mpi... vRS replica, how the hell did the owner source the genuine Sat nav unit?!

Maybe he bought it on eBay? :giggle:

A lot of work has gone into that, but I'm struggling to see how a 1.4mpi with that amount of modification is going to be any cheaper than a regular vRS??

What I mean is, how (apart from being left standing in a decent traffic light GP) is anyone (read prospective thief) going to spy this motor and think to themselves "I am less interested in this car as it's clearly a vRS replica"

Problem is, once you declare the mods, it will probably cost as much, if not more, than a VRS to insure.

Probably walked into Skoda with a gullible look and a blank cheque. They're available, but way overpriced for what they are, a mate of mine has the SEAT equivalent unit in his Leon, was something like a £1200 option on the spec sheet from new...

Like the sat nav and like the boot scratch protector thing. Any ideas where that might be available?

I think I've seen them on Superskoda before

Well if some one has just passed there test an they like the look of vrs but can't insure, this is there best bet. But let's face it they are not going to declare the mods lol, and there all genuine skoda so they could just say..... Oh it was already like it mr insurance man but don't worry we will put every one else's up :( haha

I'd love to know the insurance cost difference between that and a proper VRS for a 17yr old.

<edit> Declaring the mods like any 17yr old would - obviously </edit>

Advert describes it as having a full VRS interior. Surely this should stretch to the dashboard and the pillar plastics, which are too light. Although I can't see from the pictures, I'm assuming that the headlining isn't black either. Having said that, I've seen worse replicas.

It probably just means seats, steering wheel, gear knob and pedal covers. What most people would spot straight off.

Iv never been a "replica" fan for two main reasons. First, as covered above, the person is likely to either not tell the insurance company about the mods, or of they do they'll probably pay as much to insure as the real thing. Second, I'm not a fan of badging something up it isn't.

I'd like to sit next to the unsuspecting next owner when they try and slam it into 6th gear! :giggle:

Got the wrong end of the stick, just got up.

Apologies

You will tell straight away thats its not a real vrs, the number plates 51 !! iirc they start from 03 or 53

That's right, but not strictly true :D if so then here's a pic of my fake vRS.

Indeed, My mate has a "fake" mk2 in that case on a 57 plate. Plus the 09 plate SE on here too lol.

'oh no, it must be broken!'

Or they try to overtake someone and go absolutely nowhere!

It's not all that bad. Not all that good either, but not all that bad. Lol. Definitely need to lower gear and rev the f out of a 1.4mpi to overtake. I admit to having reached the rev limiter once when overtaking.

Am I the only one who'd love to have a VRS with standard bumpers, and a 1.2htp 6v badge proudly displayed on the boot? :D

No you're not. Before I spoiled mine modding it I was going to go down the

stealth route as I thought that would be cool. Should have done it really thinking

about it now but my time is up with this car and once it's gone I can get something

else which will be staying standard. I'm done with modding beyond the cosmetic.

Just going to buy a car that's fast already.

The location is "Vee-Dubs" in Gateshead.

They are a VAG breaker and have loads of cars in there. Thats probably how they have managered to source everything

It's a very quiet for a diesel, it also revs to 6,000 rpm too.

Having said that, I'm sure I saw once in another country they sold a petrol mk1 vrs from new. I can't remember which engine it had in it though.

didn't the petrol vRS once take a Mustang like a king..?

That was the 2.0 wasnt it?

I had a mate at college that liked his replicas, he had a focus titinium that was made to look like an ST.....which he rejected after 2 weeks due to a nasty wobble from the steering wheel

He then had a 1.9tdi golf mk5 made to look like an r32.......which then turned out to be a CAT C so he had to get rid of it

So i reckon most replicas have been damaged at some point and have been made to look like better models as the parts will have been easier to get as they will have been in higher demend.....imo

Wobbly steering wheel doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. Could have been as simple as a misshaped tyre, or unbalanced wheel.

A car turning out to be Cat C is bad luck, and could have been avoided with a HPI check.
