Tyre Prices

Featured Replies

Need four new tyres for my Octy 2 vRS.

Was at Blackboots Wheels in Motion in Chesham today having my Fiat Panda 100HP's tracking properly sorted & got some tyre prices:

Vredestein Sessanta £118.80 each.

Maxxis £85 each.

Conti Sport Contact 5 £129 each.

Tempted by the Vreds. Thoughts on the prices guys?

Cheers, Dunc.

Always wanted to try the Vredesteins, but they're difficult to find in some parts of the country and when you do, they can be expensive so I went for Michelin PS3's; bit pricey but VERY good.

Give the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's a whirl. They're getting rave ratings at the mo and you can get them fitted for quite a bit cheaper than the Vredestein, the Conti's AND my Michelin's.

how about Uniroyal Rainsports 2?

try camskill for tyre prices too

No Michelin?

I would have thought that the tyres for the VRS must be traction rating AA and the Maxis range looks to be between C and G wet grip rating not A like the PS3s.

Would not recommend the Maxxis or wish them on my worst enemy.

Michelin have a deal that you can get a £50 fuel voucher if you buy a pair of 18 in jobbies and therefore best tyre at a lowish price, cake and eat it.

Vredesteins good but no longer quite such good value as they once were. My only criticism would be they wear quite quickly. I got through a set in 6k once.

I've just ordered 4 michelin ps3s for £442 delivered from Camskill. Will cost me £40 to have fitted.

I second the vote for the Goodyear Asymmetric 2s. I've had 4 fitted to mine for the best part of a year and they've been a massive improvement on the Conti SportContatcs that were on it before. They're quieter, grip better, less rolling resistance and work really well in the wet (quite important this summer!).

They're not the cheapest, but they're worth every penny.

Just had the new vredestein Vorti's fitted to my vRS. Initial impressions are decent although they are fitted to the rear ATM, soon to be on the front.

I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the above. I got my vorti's for £106 from tyremen.co.uk. £10 fitment per tyre.

WIM are a great company by the way. Totally transformed the handling of my old MX5. Was well worth the drive from norfolk to get it lowered and the geo done!

Glad i've got 17" wheels, much cheaper!

Thanks guys!

Also after a non-directional tyre so I can rotate back to front and side to side over their life.

And built in rim protection if possible to help out SWMBO.

Think this may rule out the Vreds, as I think they are directional.

Anyone know of a suitable tyre with decent rim protection? My Contis aren't bad for that. Are the new Conti Sp 5's the same?

Thanks,

Dunc

That is good going - they were always priced at a greater premium when I looked.

Have had a look at Camskill. They look very competitive.

Just all depends on how cheaply I can get them fitted.

Thanks all for your thoughts, as ever!

Well you only get £25 voucher on the 14-17 inch tyres. Had 17s on my 1.8 TSI and it was a nice ride but the 18 with the VRS suspension has less body role but not to stiff like the Leon Cupra which was painfully stiff.

You cannot get Mich Super Sports in 17s I think and have to change rim width to get on the 18s ie 235s or squeeze them on which I would have thought is not recommended.

18 inch Neptunes do look pretty good and thought of putting them on the 1.8 TSI L&K but changed the car before I got round to it.

15 inch on the Indian VRS looks well weird.

It'll be Eagle F1's the next set of rubber I get. ;)

I having two Hankook Ventus K110's (18's) fitted to the rear of mine in a few weeks time. Im paying £205 all in fitted for the 2 (but Im in the motor trade and have connections) I stuck with these tyres as this is what is on the front and they seem to be perfectly fine.

I've got Maxxis MA-Z1 all round and I think they're good.

I have heard the MA-V1 is not so good.

The only issue I have is they're a little noisy but still better than the original Conties the car came with.

I've found plenty of grip in wet and dry.

I'm on my second set of fronts I got 20k from the last lot (not on motorways) and paid £86 a corner in June for them.

Yeah, just check this before you order the tyres. I had real difficulty finding a tyre fitter that was prepared to fit tyres they hadn't supplied. I had to use a mobile fitter in the end, (etyres iirc), and it cost me £15 per tyre, so I didn't really make any saving.

Ladies & Gents,

As above, any knowledge regarding tyres with a decent rim protector built in?

My Contis have a small lip, but I've seen Porsche tyres with a huge lip to protect the alloys.

Anything similar available in 225/40 R 18 92Y?

Thanks in advance.

My local Pro-Trye (Fareham) were happy to fit a tyre to a rim with valve and balance for £10 per tyre. This was on the condition it was a NEW tyre. As they were not a Vred stockist they seemed perfectly OK with taking the work. I get the feeling it might have been different if they did stock the brand you were asking them to fit - or maybe they would have done a price match! £10 for 10 minutes work and a 20p valve is good money if you ask me!

I had Maxxis on my car for about 3 years and was very happy with them in all conditions.

Now I have a set of Lassa Phenoma all round and for me they are fantastic.

My vote goes to Maxxis MA-Z1.

Iv had Conti sc3, Pirelli, & potenza, all good tyres and I decided to try the MA-Z1 as they are far cheaper and so far they are great.

Dry & wet is very good, a bit noisy but not bad. I drive hard on the Welsh mountain roads and so far so good. Only put 2k miles on them but very impressed. If I get over 10k I will be getting more. The best iv had so far is 13k on Conti sc3 and 20k on matador winter tyres.
