Re-Mapping

Featured Replies

I've read a few threads about people getting their Octy's remapped. I have a CR 170 vRS and I am thinking about it. Does the Clutch handle the extra power ok, or is it an uprated clutch to go with the remap? Reason i ask this is, a work mate of mine had a 130ps mondeo tdci; remapped it to 155ps and it screwed his clutch and gearbox after about 8000 miles.

Thanks in advance for your advice :)

I had my old cr remapped by SP Tuning near Leicester and it did 204bhp and 320+lbs without any clutch issues. VAG cars typically have more tolerance built in I think hence why they all remap so well!

What Jonno said! I have heard a lot of bad things from people with TDCI engines that have been remapped and if it was a 130bhp 1.9PD TDi VAG engine it would give 170-175bhp a good increase no problems to running gear unlike the piddly small gainst seen in the Ford TDCI's.

If getting it done take a look around for somewhere to do it but make sure you are happy for them to do it from reviews on here by members who have let them loose on their car. If you have a new VRS late 2010 is onwards not sure of an exact date you will need to let them cut into the security bolts remove the cars ECU open it and connect to the board in it to remap the old school way not just plug into OBDII socket as the newer ones are encrypted. This is something you want a real professional to undertake not some moron doing it cheap!

I remapped my golf 130 which mapped to approximately 180, clutch slipped instantly in 3rd gear and above. Map off no slip, it has done 114k though.

You will always put more stain on the turbo / drivetrain with a map but damm, at 180bhp mine was an aminal and the torque really put a huge smile on my face!

I have a 09 LE vRS, would you know off hand if my ECU is OBDII or if it's an ECU that requires bolts cut etc to gain access to it?

Thanks for advice and replies all :)

If i was a gambling man I would say yours should be able to be done via OBDII port. Mine was a 58 reg and was.

My 59 plate mapped fine over the OBDII port.

And did you re map yourself? Or did you have to take it somewhere?

Last I heard it was only the newer diesels that required the ECU removing, the petrols were all still mappable through the ODB2.

Me? My map is a bluefin so did it myself with the handset.

Did you Dave? And is your petrol or diesel? And what blue fin do you have?? Super chip, or shark?

What did you think of your SP map?

They did my Focus and thought it was very good but tool the Octavia elsewhere and I am not impressed.

Thought it was good but didn't have anything else to compare it to apart from standard map.

The encryption has been broken and the ECU no longer needs to be opened on either the petrol or diesel engine.

Is this true? Thought about getting 2010 VRS CR170 done but didnt want to have ecu stripped.

I have noticed that Shark gets good reviews (Ben I think it is) - considered heading down south to get remap done.

Where are Shark based and what is there phone number / website???

Cheers
