Time to change my VRS?

Featured Replies

Popped into my local dealer and made the mistake of parking my 56 plate PD VRS next to a 61 plate facelifted model , my car started to look very old !!

Saw a 15,000 mile 11 plate VRS CR est with DSG for £16790 and took it for a spin and very much enamoured but with the current VAT free deal wondering whether it might be better to order a new one instead??

Bit disappointed my 56 plate 71,000 car was only valued at £5420 despite being pretty much mint as its a well loved car :( Anyone got a glasses guide for one of these with a jumbo box , 18" wheels, parking sensors, rear leccy windows and a parrot kit??

At the moment the new ones are a great deal especially with the £500 deposit contribution and 3 years free servicing, makes it even better, I have just traded my 11 plate TSI for a TDI and my old one is on the dealers forecourt for about the same as the new one, they even admitted that it will take a while to sell it as people are buying new as opposed to used at the moment, people are only buying nearly new if they dont want to wait 3 months for a new one.

No idea on teh value of yours, but is it worth putting it on ebay or on here or something to try and sell it between now and when a new one might arrive, the worst that is going to happen that you will have to put it in againt the new one, and at best you sell it and have a few extra quid to put down as a deposit.

Seems the right price for it, was offered 7k for mine same spec as yours incl xenons. Been taken for a mug buying one of these anyway I'm just keeping it stage 2 next and new clutch and Bilstein B6's.

we buy any car dot com? also whatcar web site has a valuation service that is free.

also check out drivethedeal.com for some very sharp pricing on new cars.

I'd love to be able to order a new one! They say there's a recession, but I'm not sure myself.

Presumably there are other differences - mileage, age, etc. there's no way xenons make £1600 difference on a p/x!

:D

Turns out missus isnt quite so keen on a new Octy, but she says i can have a Fabia VRS :)

More like 'We'll give you an insulting valuation, then knock more off when we see it dot com'!

The prices they've quoted me have been about 40% below market value! Wouldn't use them unless I had a gun to my head, and even then it'd be a last resort!

Biggest joke offer I had for Focus TDCi. They are part of the same group that owns Carcraft, who in my experience are the biggest used car cowboys out there. If you know what you're doing you might get a car at a market price, if you don't you'll get ripped of for sure.

nearly 17K is a lot of money on a car with what it offers, not knocking the Octavia (i own one) but for 17K I'd be looking at a 3-4 year old e60 530d Tourer with low mileage and high spec. Get one with FBMWSH and you can renew their warranty

E60 Tourer 530D

Personally I think the Octavia is an unbeatable buy once it's 4 years old, then they are at a price which make them untouchable for the money

Personally I don't want a 4 year old car, and nothing else comes close to the Octy for the money, especially the vRS.

I've been looking for another car but can't decide if to get another skoda,Alternative Cars i've looked at so far are,Evo,Rs3 Audi,Another subaru,Ford RS/ST.

I was looking at the fabia monte carlo because i think it looks great in the right colour, too underpowered for me though.Fabia vrs i'm put off because it only has DSG and no manual option, and i'm just undecided on another octy.

One thing is for sure the new vehicle tax is pants to own any of the cars i've listed. When i had my scoob i was still paying less than £200.00,i think the rs3 is something around £400.00 for 12 months tax..

I might see what the local dealer can do on a another octy rs..

it might get you the 3-4 year old BMW, but running costs on these are huge. They depreciate like lead balloons, just like my Audi has from new and at 7 or 8 years old will be worth shirt buttons compared to the purchase price. My £34K+ when new Audi is now worth £2K at best, and it still has the running costs of a £34K car.

That is a hideous looking car!

If you going down the second hand road, how about these.....

I was just going with the diesel performance estate (what he was looking at) with a boot space similar to the Octy, obviously you could go Audi A6 3.0tdi le mans edition, Merc C350cdi E320cdi, or even a 335D Tourer (bit small)

Again not knocking the Octy but you can get a great all round car for 17K if you just get one a few years old. Obviously the OP doesn't mind an older car as they drive a 56 plate at the moment. Personally I think people are slightly mad to buy a car new with their own money but each to their own and all that.

The e60 530d isn't too expensive to run, many parts are far cheaper than their vag equivalents (try abs sensors!). One lad at work runs one and has spent no more than I have on servicing/parts than I have on my Octavia in the past 2 years (tyres are more approx £50-70 a corner more). They are a tried and trusted engine, with a great drive chain and mechanicals. You will get issues with them like any car but on the whole they are a fantastic car.

I know what car I'll be going back to after my Octavia, I miss my six cylinder silky smoothness too much!

Unfortunately I can tell you from experience that the Evo (Any Evo) will cost you at least twice what the VRS will , the bills for them are frequent and usually very large !!

Mind you not a lot will get near one on the road

A mate of mine has the E60 535d , is fairly quick but ultimately pretty dull and its a barge , I might consider something like that if I was doing 40,000 miles per year but i only do 4-6000miles on each of my two cars

The reason I drive an 06 is that I change a car every three years or so , we have three cars so now its the Octys turn for replacement , we have had it since it was 3 months old it was a pre-reg but we usually buy new

In another three years I'll be changing the Superb which will then be 6 years old.

Well are they much more to service etc than an impreza, you see i've thought of getting another STI,but quite fancied an evo..I went out in the vrs this morning, and i think its time for a change,it just don't do it for me anymore,i'm bored with it,or maybe its just a faze i'm going through, don't know. But i think the focus ST 1 is about the same list price as a new vrs now 20k plus..
