Show me / Recommend me your headunits

Hey guys, I'm thinking of treating my Fabia to a new headunit. I've got the standard one at the moment and tbh its crap, CD works only sometimes.

I've got an Alpine (which isn't fitted) which I've had in my last 3 cars but now I'm wanting something new maybe a double DIN? I think they are.

Must have ipod / iphone connection and maybe a microphone so I could use it as a handsfree? I'm new to all this so will take on board some recommendations.

What kind of headunit would I get for £200 maybe £250?

Also do you guys uprate the standard speakers or run 6 x 9s or subs and amps?

id go double din( i have) and ive kept my standard speakers tbh as they arnt half bad.

Agree with above. If I didn't already have a stereo from my old car, I'd have gone double din. You just lose the small pocket under the dash. You should probably be able to mount the microphone behind the grille in the interior light - at least I believe there's an OE mic designed to fit in there anyway.

I have a subwoofer in addition to the standard speakers and all is good. Only thing is I have to keep fettling with the trim etc as sometimes get rattles/vibrations. Doesn't help that most of it is broken, apparently by whoever installed the towbar.

I am considering swapping the OE speakers for some Alpine SXE1750s speakers. Opinion seems divided on them though, but I bought them as they were cheap.

Not double din but the best head unit I've had in ages in functionality. Mechless so is actually under £100. Good amp, lots of connections and full iPod control.

I'm looking to replace my parrot rki 8400 (cr*p) with this,

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alp-cdew235bt-alpine-cde-w235bt.html

No usb at the back but otherwise it looks a pretty good buy, Halfords have it on display for about £350 but it was still nice to see it in the flash so to speak.

Bloody hell wast expecting that to be that cheap! That's perfect for me - I'm happy with my current Alpine - its served me we after the last 2.5 years but I'm getting bored now.

What kind of connections do I need to be able to fit these to the Fabia?

I have a Alpine CDE-123R

If you have the standard HU, I think all you will need a antenna adaptor and a piece of trim. If you contact Car Audio Direct they'll sort you out with the bits.

Both myself and the missus have had stereos off them and they've always been great.

That w205 is smart! Bit out of my price range though and it's also been discontinued :(

Think I'll contact car audio direct about that other Alpine one, id be made up with that :)

If you do fit it can you report back on how you like it?

I'm saving up for it the now.

Cheers

Got a sony xav-601bt a couple of weeks ago

looks cool in the dash and very powerful 20120708_152035.jpg

new galaxy s3 will work it next month following upgrade

Kenwood DPX504U, loads of features, equaliser, pre-outs, Ipod controll, Bluetooth compatible (adaptor req) Aux in, USB in, skoda green colour match. Smart.

The Sony unit above looks sweet. I'd still like to see what could be achieved with a fully integrated Android based double din head unit. Seeing how cheap the phones and tablets can go for these days, I'm convinced it could be done, and at a good price point.

I sure will mate, probably be a couple of weeks or more as my aim is to treat myself for my birthday but then again I'm also dying to get it remapped :(

Think stereo is more important though :)

How easy was this to install? What about trim etc

Ebay eonon, double din unit for £125, i had one in my scooby and 3 of my mates have them, brilliant unit, does everything!

I had an Alpine CDE113BT in mine, was a great head unit, was only about £130 if I remember right, USB and iPod connectivity, had Bluetooth as well. Sold it to devonutopia when I sold the Fabia.
