Rs Performs Like An Old Granny

Just being pedantic as usual with one of our more extrovert RS owners, Des! I don't doubt for a moment that the FMIC does a good job of keeping the charge temperature down, but how about investigating water methanol injection as the ultimate to achieve that? You seem to have tried just about everything else!

Hmm, water methanol you say, injected into what?

I have ordered a Nos/Co2 halo kit from ABD it bolts onto the front of the FMIC and sprays the IC with cold gas.

Read this for further details. (The first hit during a Google search for water methanol injection). Sounds interesting, and taking into account what you have done to your car already, Des, this mod should be a piece of cake! :)

What sort of tubing is that, Christian? It looks far smaller in diameter than the vent pipe for a tumble dryer, and more rigid too.

It's actually from a "vacuum cleaner" for swiming pools =) It isn't very flexible but it works and didn't cost me anyting:D I think i will change them later on to some tubes with larger diameter.

Thanks Christin, now I know what to fit and where to fit it.

Jon

Jon you ned to make a heat proof shield above below and around the cone with only the side of the pipes open... this lowers the temp dramatically..... will post some pics of mine shortly

hi guys,

question for you guys with induction kits...

What do you do with the sensor that is fitted to the back of the original air box? There does seem to be a cut out for it in christians photos, but it is not fitted, as I am looking at fitting a stainless mesh filter to my octy slxi, any info would be good, also the second filter (the little one) can this be plumbed into the one pipe, ie to run off just the main filter?

Thanks for any info, Fram

what sensor? do you mean the cold air pipe for the air pump?

Maybe he is refering to the little thing above the air pipe on this pic: http://snutten.mine.nu/gallery/album67/IMG_2303?full=1

Noticed i myself yedterday. Wonder what it is. Kind of looks like a sensor of some kind:confused:

not sure.. cant see anything on mine?

hi guys

right the sensor that I am on about is on the back of the stock airbox, fixed in by an oval rubber gasket, which, if you look at the last picture that christian put up you can see the hole for quite clearly but nothing fitted in it. My car is a 2000 slxi 1.8t so maybe this is a feature of the throttle cable cars, not used (or fitted) on the drive by wire cars.....??

The MAF sensor.... Stays where it is.... Don't break it it's expensive!

Oh, you mena the oval hole behind the filter in the picture? I think your'e right about that only being used by older 1.8T without the electronic throttle.

got to agree.

in the heat of the last few days, my car has been more talk and less torque.

Problem with Warmer weather is-----

Air less dense, less oxygen.

Less oxygen, less fuel going in.

Less fuel, less boom,

Less boom, less zoom:mad:

On the subject of FMIC's, has anyone measured up a Volvo 4/7/8/900 series turbo IC. they flow pretty well, and are quite large.

They are very popular among lots of other marques, including the Saab turbos I'm messing with at the moment, but they do need some reworking of tow hooks and things on the Saab, but it is mean't to have a SMIC, if the Octavia already has an FMIC, then you might be able to get away with maybe moving the radiator forward to fit it, or maybe adding a boost switch or thermoswitch operated IC fan to the stock IC.

Would certainly help with Heatsoak.

Watersprays work nice though evaporation, Gas Halos such a CO2 work well too, because gas compressed as a liquid, then released back into a gas drops to -20c and below.

Water/methanol injection is cool too, if well atomised, and regulated by boost pressure, because you can just add another screen wash reservour to hold the fluid used. not only does it cool the piston crowns it also protects against knock, so you can run slightly higher ignition advance, and more boost, and it can also help in the removal of carbon from the pistons and valves, because it steam cleans them, as it vaporises into a nice cool buffer on top of the piston.
