Sainsbury's 97 RON

Featured Replies

I normally use tesco 99 or v power, but a new sainsbury has opened nearby that has super unleaded 97 at over 10p a litre cheaper than shell. Anyone tried it in a pre fl tfsi? Even better a remapped tfsi. Spec on fuel filler states 98 for optimum performance, but I think I'll try a tank

I've tried this before and to be honest mpg is decent (not worse than shell). Never ran for too lob though as it is only 97. The engine does run smoother than on standard 95ron.

The wife's Fabia Vrs Runs fine on this stuff and you get Necter Points.

I use this as it's the same price as reg unleaded in the petrol stations.

As good as 98 imo, and nectar points as or resident tightwad points out

You'll need to run a few tank fills to see any difference/benifit

Why? I've read that the ecu will adjust to the new octane rating pretty quickly, after all the primary control is the knock sensor to optimise the timing. This happens instantly.

I've read that you need to run a couple of tankfuls for the Ecu to adapt. Who knows??, hope it's fine for your motor

To be honest I use this in my TFSI and it runs better and I get better MPG than when I use 99 ron, and your rite about the knock sensor it adjusts the ignition timing instantly.

Use this fuel in my 2006 remapped vrs sometimes and its fine

i use this fuel quite regularly, in fact i filled up yesterday with it @£1.31 a litre, my car is remapped and ive never noticed a difference between this and tesco 99 what i also use a lot.

Ran it to west wales this afternoon with a bike on the roof. About 4-5mpg worse than tescos / V Power but that could be partly down to the headwind. Didn;t feel quite a spritely as usual either, but i was mislead by petrolprices.com website alert, it wasnt £1.31 a litre at all, turned out to be the same as tescos 99.

On a slightly different note, I'm in haverfordwest all week, the nearest shell station is nearly 20 miles away.....what's all that about then?

Welcome to west wales lol

Mind you theres only one Shell station in cardiff, about £1.40+ for V-power

There's two on my work commute, one in Newbridge, and one in cwmbran. None here though, seems a bit random

There is a shell station a couple of miles from Haverfordwest at Johnston on the Milford Haven road.

Yes, I recall that now you mention it. Wonder why it doesn't show up on the Shell app....
