Wife's 'YES' to Yeti!

Featured Replies

Travelled around 200 miles over the weekend in Yeti to see if we are going to change our Fabia 2 for one in next few months. We were trying to decide between Golf Plus ( a previous great car ) or the Yeti.

The high driving seat as well as comfortable driving position swayed my wife. It's other obvious attributes of good space and comfort for 4 adults as well as large boot space which could be increased by sliding back seats forward. Other gadgets like parking sensors were also appreciated.

We've decided on a 1.2 TSi petrol 2wheel drive as anticipate around 10,000 miles per annum and this model seems resonably priced, although we think we don't mind the extra for an SE+ or Elegance spec as we want such things as cruise control and lumber supports - sat nav and sunroof are a bonus (not essential).

Any comments on our reasoning?

Now comes the hard part! Do we bite the bullet and order NEW or spend hours looking for a used one with our minimum requirements? Not too fussy about colour. Any ideas apart from looking on Autotrader or giving our spec to a dealer and 'hoping' he will do the looking for us?

Personally I would try and find a low mileage used one and let someone else loose depreciation value for you.

Great choice of car, i would give Beth or Linda at Allams, Epsom a call and see what they can offer you! Tel: 0844 558 1505

I have no affilliation with them but have bought our yetis from them and they have been really helpfull.

A while ago when we were looking, recent ex demo and low mileage used vehicles were in some cases more than book for the equivalent new model. Supply issues being quoted as the reason.

With a dealer discount our car was significantly cheaper than a used alternative.

I suppose it depends on how "new" you want the vehicle to be. There will be a number of 09's coming up before long - once lease / finance contracts come to an end, also how long you are prepared to wait.

Yeti's are currently one of the lowest depreciating cars you can buy.

Very useful replies so far, please keep 'em coming.

Using the magic of Google (or is it just a simple search algorithm?) I sourced a pre-registered Yeti for £000's less than list price. My local Skoda dealer could of course only use his franchised system and failed to get any sort of decent nearly new car!

I got a new Urban from Lookers for Just £69 more than that. might be worth giving them a call.

Lady still wants to test Golf Plus! Any ideas on benefits or otherwise compared to Yeti. I'd rather Yeti 'cos it's a more modern design with lots of the image and height of a 4 x 4 without the horrendous costs. Also having experienced Skoda's dealer service and the friendship of this site would be reluctant to change brands.

Also Golf is a bit boring to look at, whereas everywhere you park a Yeti people are there asking questions which is a compliment to the owner.

It's a Golf (kind of, even if it's a big fat one). Which matters to some people.

Everything else is in favour of the Yeti in my opinion.

As for buying new or second hand you have a dilema.

A new model will probably be out in around a year or so. In the meantime residual values are very high.

So you can buy new (and get exactly what you want) or save a little and get 2nd hand. But either way it's going to lose a bit of value when the new facelifted version comes out and more start to appear at three years old.

On the positive side, the new version will be just a facelift.

When I looked around, the second hand prices were mad. So I bought new.

We kept our previous Yeti for 18 months and only lost £3k on it. Amazing residual value for a new car, although it was low milage.

As I can wait, the 'new' option seems to be the one. I can spec it exactly, thanks folks.

.... I can spec it exactly, thanks folks.

Have lots of fun working out what you need. Then what you want. Then what madam wants. Etc....

You'll enjoy it when you get it (so they say)!

Hi, if you are considering new I would seriously consider the panoramic sun roof. Mine was 'used' with silly low milage and already had it. Now I've had the car for over a week this option would be very high on my add list if buying new.

Mine does not have satnav, I can use my phone I can stick on a window/dash for that with a free app and free updates (Galaxy SII and Navfree). I need to try it out with BT audio streaming to see if the directions interrupt the music. Something my last car without audio streaming would not do.

And the result is yes, The phone gives the directions through the head unit and the music volume is lowered on the Bolero. For best results lower the volume on the hanset before pairing with the car or the Navfree app on the SGSII the phone will speak as well. Works a treat
