Cheap Second Service VRS

The time has come for the VRS's 2nd service and been getting quotes around the £200 mark from all the Skoda dealers in the surrounding areas. I've asked them what this includes and by the sounds of it its only oil and the basic filters as well as some sort or "checks" (what that includes i don't know) so seems a bit steep to me.

Got a contact at Audi that can do the work on a weekend much cheaper "wink wink". All the hardware has been fitted to the A1 in one way or another and he says he has the required software.

So sounds like a winner but does anyone know if this will effect the remainder of the manufactures warranty? There doesn't seem to have been any recent software updates, as far as i can see on here, that i could be missing so i think the warranty is the only worry.

Hopefully all is good and the balance can go towards a quality set of plugs and an arm rest :rofl:

However if he is doing it as a 'wink wink' job will you get the necessary paperwork to show the service was carried out properly? If not then I am not sure how you prove to the dealer/Skoda that it was conducted properly in the case of a warranty claim.

The 2 year/20,000 service is quoted at £173 in Tayside Scotland.

They make the Electronic checks sound good.

Walking around with a hand held device like a PDA, answering the multi choice questions.

Body condition, chips etc.

Oil & Pollen filter changed.

No Air filter or spark plugs or brake fluid.

Thats fluid at 3 years and plugs and filter at 4.

**** Turpin at least had a mask on!

I guess they want the warranty work anyways so as long as your not taking the p*** then I'd have thought that they would to do the work. And i could show them a big Audi stamp in the log book. :rofl:

Exactly my thought, I've heard a few horror stories about the standard plugs and it cart do any harm to change them early.

£200 is expensive, think my 20k was £140 ish.... I've recently had the 30k one done for £90.....

Is there any way to find out if a car has the latest software installed, maybe a website with each models latest update version?

Is it then possible to check your version without going to a dealer?

That's exactly what I did, provided own sourced VW bits to ICA in Garstang (Preston), an ex-Audi North West master tech now running his own business, who charged me for labour only. Proper VAT registered stamp in the book so no worries from a warranty point of view.

Even provided and got fitted some spark plugs in the price, still worked out cheaper than the Skoda service as a whole ;)

Stu vrs, you have any problems running standard spark plugs that why you changed them? Or just changed them for sake of it?? And have you noticed any improvement in the change of spark plugs?? i have tmc box and not had any problems with orginal spark plugs,

For the sake of it as per tuners recommendations.

I had a rough idle with a bit of spluttering when cold, unfortunately new plugs didn't solve this.

No real performance improvement, but the original plugs were caked when I had them out, probably worth doing just for clean plugs.

They can and probably will ask to see an invoice for the service and receipt for parts should any engine work be required.

Isnt brake fluid normally changed every two years??

It maybe be said to need doing at 2 years & often is,

not often done tho.

Here it is part of Skoda Recommending doing it at 3 years & then each 2 yearly.

Funnily some people have been told it needed doing at 2 years and charged for that.

Amazing how they can try and squeeze money from people.

2012 & Brake fluid & brake pipes and other parts has not improved in 40 years according to Manufactures.

Used to change/replace lots of brake pipes that were corroded when i was young, & moisture is or can be a problem.

You would have thought that they could do a check,

DOH they can, just they dont like to, its not enough of a Profit Maker.

Always safety first of course.

So get that Fluid changed. 'Or maybe get it Checked for Moisture Content.'

I actually do change my fluid if i am changing Brake Pads, or at least check that the nipples can be opened and partly Bleed and change fluid.

Fabias made after july 2010 the first brake fluid change is 3 years then 2 years after that iirc

Just had second service today - £144 - that's the cheapest I can recall paying for a service since 2004 (when I started motoring again with my own car - had a Lupo Sport [although didn't have it long enough to get serviced], Lupo GTi and MKI Fabia vRS prior to the MKII)!

Was pleasantly surprised as was expecting circa £200 - appreciate brake fluid change doesn't come till third year now though.

Was that a new Pollen Filter & all the checks/'Inspection Service' at a Skoda Dealership?

yes, 3rd year for Brake fluid change, no need to have it done with them if you get the MOT done first & no warranty work needing doing.

If they are that reasonable, maybe as well for them to do it tho.
