Inside edge of tyres wearing

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anyone give me some guidance.

Over the last month, the inside edge of 3 tyres (2 rear and 1 front) gave gone from 3mil to 2mil!

Front suspension bushes need replacing and the car is booked in for that.

Would I benefit from a full wheel alignment (I'm assuming here that I can align the rear wheels on an Octavia vRS 2006) and would worn bushes cause this uneven wear?

Either way I need it sorting before I splash out for 4 new tyres =(

Lots and lots and lots of information on this already on the forum. Try a search.

Commonly referred to as 'sawtoothing' of the tyre, due to incorrect alignment.

Yes..Get it lazer aligned

Mine was done yesterday after new springs were fitted

What alignment rig is that one?

Was it a 4 wheel alignment, or a full geometry on a Hunter rig or similar?

Proper job by proper people then - they come highly recommended

Sawtoothing is worse that just excess wear. My old rear tyres were quite badly sawtoothed and it sounded like a wheel bearing or two had gone (Goodyear Optigrips). From what I understand it's due to the rear axle not being driven, so the tread wears only in the braking direction wheras the fronts wear in 'both directions' due to acceleration and braking forces.

The one front is most likely caused by too much toe out and/or under inflation.

The rear could also be caused by toe out, under inflation and the sawtoothing that these cars seem to be prone to. Some tyres will be more succeptable to sawtoothing that others (tread pattern and compound).

First step is to get your worn bushes replaced, then get a 4 wheel alignment done. If there are any camber/toe angles that are out of spec then it's possible part of the suspension is damaged.

If the alignment goes OK then get new tyres. It might be a good idea to avoid the same ones you got saw toothing with. Once you have the new tyres on then rotate them periodically to even out the wear.

ABC did mine as well

top job

I'll be going there soon too :)

Thanks for that. Car is going in on Monday to get the bushes done, Need to sort that before alignment. Might see if I can get it in on Tuesday, if not then when I get back from hols.

I use Bridgestone Potenza and had no issues until now, the back ones have been on since I got the car and have done 30K, the front tyres are about 12 months old and done around 20K.

If you know Redditch, it's full of potholes and getting worse every week so that doesn't help!!! Maybe I should put a claim in to the local council!

ABC for me too I had lowering springs Koni FSDs new poly rear bushes, and droplinks ( mine also 2006) my droplinks were shot, new oem droplinks are so much thicker
