Average mpg on 18" wheels (vrs)

Featured Replies

For those who have an octavia vrs with 18x8 allloys what is the average mpg you get driving sensibly?

To and from work (36 mile round trip) on a mixture of roads I'd say 32mpg average.

Went up to Scotland this week (250 miles) mostly motorway / dual carriageway and averaged 38 mpg.

As above, low to mid 30's for motorway cruising.

High 20's for the drive to work (20miles, mixture of town, motorway, a-road).

Don't see why 18'' should make any difference....tyres will though depending on if they have a softer compound.....225/45/17 gave approx 10% decrease...Pirelli Rossos.

225/40/18 Goodyear GSD3 F1 giving approx same mpg.....which is now averaging about 31mpg in total.

On motorway seen between 35-40mpg....depending on my mood. ;)

The increase in weight from each wheel surely means it takes more fuel to push a heavier car?

Lets say you drive 4 miles in medium traffic, 30mph. What is your mpg around? Mine is 22mpg or around this.

If the circumference of the wheel/tyre is any different, then your odometer reading will be different, so all your measurements will be different.

The amount of wear on the tyres does the same thing, my fronts are almost bald and the speed on the speedo is several mph ahead of the true reading from SatNav, on new tyres the reading on the dial and SatNave are much closer
