How the feck do you get the coil packs out?

Carefully really really carefully can be done without the tool but i wouldnt personaly try without the tool

You may use a cord. Put it under the coil pack and pull.

Iv got a pry bar in the door pocket....... Think il just wait till iv got the proper tool:)

Think I saw that tool set at about £50. Which long term isn't that bad I suppose but does sting when you just want it to do a quick one off job!

If anyone sees it cheaper please post link as I am interested.

Had a look under the engine cover to see what the problem was. Definitely going to need a tool. How the hell do you get the far left (looking from the front of the car) coil pack out? Do you have to move the cables/pipes or is there some technique?

It can be done with pliers and fingers but fat easier with a tool. I got mine from h17den on here for about a Tenner.

The VRS is going in for its 2 year service with 18k on it. Was thinking about changing the plugs while its in. Its totally standard so what is the recommended plug that people are using? I've tried looking on the NGK website but the engine doesn't seem to be on there. I was going to get standard genuine ones from TPS but people are saying that have been known to cause miss fires?

Would the BKR7EIX be okay with a stage 1 remap, or should I use the BKR8EIX?

7s are recommended for stage 1. I had 8s for a while on unmapped car and were fine. Only reason Revo don't suggest the 8s as you may experience rough idle when cold but I never had a problem. Now at stage2 I'm using 9s

Sorry to revive this thread but nobody answered this question and I need the answer myself! What are the wires and tubes to the left covering the spark plug and do they need to be removed to change the plug?

Yes they do need removing.

& very careful replacing afterwards.  Make sure they are sealed.

 

Go to the Pinned 'Warning on Sparkplugs' thread up top.

I have my usual poor pictures in post # 337 , page 12.

But you know now that the pipes need moved to give access.

(it is not unknow for technicians just not bothering to change that spark plug, or mess up putting the pipes back properly...)

Thanks for the help. What are the pipes for? I couldn't tell by looking - not quite that tech minded. My friend who is more so will be helping me to change the plugs.
