Starting/imobiliser problems

Featured Replies

Hi I am new to the site and must confess straight away that I know next to nothing about cars,

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.4 2002 and recently it has developed problems starting. The car will start, but then cuts out straight away. I have noticed that the imobiliser light comes on when this happens. If you wait a minute it usually starts again and is fine, but the other night it would not restart at all and I had to use the overide code that comes with your keys to overide the imobiliser and drive home. Since then it starts sometimes and sometimes doesn't.

I took it to my local garage (not a Skoda dealer) and they read the following codes from it;

17978 Engine start blocked by imobiliser p1570 intermittant

01128 imobiliser pick up coil d2 intermittant

01176 key signal to low intermittant

They suggested I try the spare key as it could be the sensor in the key end. However the spare key works sometimes and sometimes doesn't, just like the other key. Otherwise they could find no problem with the car and didn't have a problem starting it themselves.

I have noticed that it happens more often when the car is hot, Ie after a long journey, or on a hot day. Might this be connected to my coolant,as another issue with the car (but not one that seems to affect anything) is that the coolant warning light is on all the time even though the coolant level is fine. This in itself doesn't seem to affect the car, but might it be causing the imobiliser to kick in?

Sorry for such a long post, but I do not have the spare cash to spend on trying to eliminate a whole string of potential causes. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

It would be worth typing that all again in the Fabia 1 section,

or someone will be along here soon hopefully, that can assist.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I'll find the Fabia 1 section and send the question out again.
