Looking for new tyres - are these a good buy?

Featured Replies

Plus if you's have ever wondered why they are cheaper than their competitors; its simply because they dont do OE fitment hence you never see them as original equipment fitted on new cars.

How does that make them cheaper? I've always found them priced at more that prem. brands. .

Back on track....... I used to run t1r's and found them a good allrounder.

G.P - what premium brands do you buy and where do you shop? My goodness Vreds should be cheaper than your typical conti sport contact, Goodyear eagle f1 etc. . . Can't be held responsible if you consider Hankook,Avon and Falken as premium brands though . . .

If you need to know why not doing OEM fitment saves you money and their tyres RRP then you may wish to work with manufacturers and see how expensive R&D is! Hence forth vehicle specific tyre markings I.e MO for Mercedes example Conti SP3 MO will be more expensive than a Conti SP3 at RRP. VRED don't do this R&D for car manufacturers and invest R&D funding into the tyre patterns and sizes they deam fit for general use. I hope that was easy to follow guys ; )

basically they dont put the tyres on the car and test it? and adjust the compound to suit the car and the manufacturer?

Man, this has not made it any clearer haha. I have to say the nankangs NS2 look appealing because you can get two for £100.

I am looking to spend ideally £150 max and want a set of tyres that will handle well in the wet and are good distance tyre.

try tyre trader mate they are a fraction cheaper than camskill on some tyres too.

is the 205/50/17R the right ones to go for?

Dont scrimp on tyres...that means Nankang! Get the best you can afford.

And you have a remap

Well I have been running double stars up to this point so I doubt they could be that bad. From reading, they actually have better reviews than the falkens.

yea mate,

205 50 17 are the OEM fitments.

you can get 225 45 17 too but in my experience the few £ you save on tyres you loose in slightly worse eco and adds a few extra mile on your speedo as they are slightly smaller RR but marginal.

Personally I think 205 50 17 will be best bet.

I am getting the Nankangs for the Fabia vRS as I am on my winters atm and they are really nice but dont think driving them in summer will be any good.

Personally I never had any trouble with tyres be it budget or anyhting else. provided you drive properly youll be fine on any tyre. as I keep saying DRIVE TO THE CONDITIONS!

I am not a tyre snob hence I dont care. For the job my Fabia does I will be putting the cheap stuff on seen as its only Mway running.

Youll be fine with them mate, least they will match lol,

Unfortunatly it will always come down to funding....

Yes pirrelli michilin goodyear conti etc will be better

But in the same way i have a octy and not a porsche or a Q7 i just cant afford it ...

Another way to look at it mate

If you have always used cheaper tyres then you are in the position of not knowing any different.

Much like if someone said to me that gucci did ice cream and it is awesome lol the best ive done is walls so i wouldnt ever know :D

Buying tyres will always suck as there is not trial or test drives and only others views

1 mans something is another mans something else ????? Hehe

Some people would say are octys are bum :( but we love them :)

On a hopefully more helpful note

The all new tyre company are good on nankangs

Sorry i cant be more help bud

Ooo i just thought..... We got 2 nankang AS-1s on the mrs altea

Lol i must say they look funky cos they have a stretched look as standard :D

They arnt the best, but i can still have a bit of fun,

Yes you can get understeer but you can feel them going..... They were £57 each gor 225/40/18 and thats all we could aford at the time

I will say........ NOISEY :D

But the mrs ignores it and with the stereo on you become use to it : D

Goodluck buddy, hope you get them sorted :)

Double Stars? :wonder: If your budget is tight then get some 452 or Toyos.

Wow, another tyre thread. First off use the search to read through old threads and also look in the Tyres section of the forum, there are loads of opinions posted already.

For your budget I'd probably go with Falken or Hankook. I have Hankook Ventus evo S1s on the front and Ventus Prime 2 on the back, S1 is a sports tyre and the Ventus Prime 2 is a touring tyre (better ride but less feedback). The V12s get good reviews but I don't think they're quite as good as the S1 evo.

I keep hearing mixed reviews about Toyos, to sum them up it sounds like they are grippy but wear quickly.

Ok, so from reading all the reviews I plan to either go for the...

uniroyal rainsport 2

or the

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

At the moment I am more swayed to the rainsports because of the price but with regards to the sessantas I can't seem to find them in the right fitments? Do these have a different fitment or am I looking in the wrong places? Also where is the cheapest place to buy them?

Woooo rainsports :D

Although no doubt vredesteins are cool :)

I found cabot tyres in bristol actually beat camskill lol but i live here so was ok :)

Camskills delivery was good as i remember tracking it to my door hehe

Aaaah after reading it all..... They dont do the vredesteins in the 205/50/17 only 225/45/17

Rainsports come in both :)

For me I'd not really call Hankook a budget.

er than the marking of the MO on the sidewall and price, what is the difference?

So taking the Conti SP3 none approved and a Verd, they will have roughly had the same amount of R & D?

What would be the out come if I picked 225/45/17 over 205/50/17?

only joking, you'll be fine

Your speedo will be about 1mph more inaccurate than it already is

That $ that Vredestien save, they spend on advertising like this :giggle:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjehLVVgSqA

seems a good price bud :)

camskill drop them to 80 sumin at times with offers iirc but .... yeah thats good :)

ContiSportContact 3 all day long.

And I run 225/45/17 - Look exactly the same as 205/50/17 and have made zero difference to mpg. I feel they've even made a difference to the handling being a bit wider.

All I got was worse fuel consumption and tram lining, handling was just the same lol
