New battery time, anyone recently changed theirs?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just wondered if anyone changed theirs recently, I think mines slowly giving up on me after the 6th year.

I normally go Tanya batteries ad they seem quick on delivery and price matching so cost isn't far off normally.

I was planning exide brand, 027 model? but if anyone has alternatives let me know. I'll need it by Wednesday so probably need to order it today or tomorrow.

Thanks!

Price up one in Halfrauds, that'll give you a squeeky bum! Phone a couple of battery suppliers in your local area, giving the spec, and see what they say. I've always found GSF the best for batteries tbh. Exact same Bosch battery in Halfords was £95 with a 5 year warranty. GSF offered the exact same battery, although with a 4 year warranty for £35 + VAT = £42. Best I could find from specific battery suppliers in my area was £65. ;)

just an fyi, I got this one @ £68 inc del in the end as the locals couldn't really match it.

Fabia Diesels are 067 or 096 models whereas Fabia Petrols are 027 (I remember my 1.4 had a 027 hence why the number was stuck in my head)

Thanks for the help guys.

Ah, I completely forgot about discount codes...

Think the ECP ones are slightly different though, theres

Excell at £51.15

Premium at £61.15

then @ Tanya Batteries its Premium Plus xtra at £67.98

I've bought it already but probably would want to go with the cheapest one if im honest, emailed them to see if they can price match or cancel.....

Thanks for the heads up

It was worth a try.. :p

"Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately that would be considerably below our cost price, so at your request I have cancelled the order.

I have just refunded you in full.

Many thanks,

Jo"

yep,

had to replace SWMBO's a few months back, died completely on a sunday morningand had to be back on road for monday to go to work so had no local option other than halfrauds :wall:

just over £100 for the varta 5 year guarentee one

I got the same battery as you above, the high cranking exide one and it fit ok, does the job great for me and a tidy price too !

Edit: For the extra price, rather than trying to save a few quid I would in fact have got that one.

In fact, that is why I got that one !

Tanya are good too, I wouldn't waste a second with anyone else and it still works out much cheaper than Halfrauds.

You might save a few quid but it may last more than a year or two longer than the rest, plus the hassle and inconveniance of when the battery fails !

Hi, recently changed the Felly's after 5+ years of service. Car was going into my local VW specialist for it's MOT and I wasn't going to bother asking them as expected a hefty price tag. Therefore most surprised when they came back at around £40 fitted = job done and must admit has made a noticeable difference. Just proves not to always assume ;)

Absolutely true, worth checking around for parts from other VAG dealerships too if other cars share them. Most dealerships now are franchises, so prices vary significantly from one to the next in a lot of cases.

Thanks for the comments guys, I think you're right about convenience and hassle.

I got stuck in town a couple of days ago and needed to get somewhere at specific time. Annoyingly I don't carry a jump lead, but luckily where I parked there was a builder couple of doors down, and he had a v handy jump leads  . Think I'll be investing in a pair of them in the near future. If not for myself I could at least return a favour to someone in need.

Anyway, bought and fitted today, the battery was slightly larger than the original (mine is a 2006 vrs). Battery fitted fine, i have the one with the cage and wiring on top. The jacket needed modifying slightly as it was slightly too small.

In the end I went for the Bosch S4 (Model 096) as it was same price (£62) as Exide premium and I could pick it up from ECP.

I went online to see some comments on Exide, some say great, some say not so good, hence I went Bosch as I've had it on other cars before.

The original was an Akuma 61Ah 540A

New one is Bosch S4 72Ah 680A (4 yrs warranty).

When you swap the battery do you need to put a code in the radio afterwards? I've read it mentioned in the handbook but I can't seem to find the actual code for my headunit anywhere in the paperwork I have.

See the link in my earlier post - I did...
