Aint no cure for the car colour blues

Featured Replies

When I first bought my yellow vrs I loved the novelty and almost the "in joke" I had with it....in fact I loved the way you could change peoples reaction to disbelief as you'd steam past them

Now though the yellow is a bit long in the tooth for me, its not a new feekling either. Its just dated on me.

I kinda wished I'd gone for something longer lasting like a moodier colour like black, or a spankingly gorgeous red one. Silver is nice too !

Just wondered if others have had the same kind of feeling with their colour too and did you do anything about it ?

My car itself is pretty much mechanically sound still, having done a neat 95k miles since reg around dec 06 so in a way Im in no rush to rid of it. I've drive it from new, I know I have done a lot of longer motorway style journeys too so put some "proper" driving on it ....and it has responded well to that treatment.......rather than a low mileage town-driven "ready to sieze" special lol

Kinda wondered about respray, wrapping etc but seems costly...or maybe diy.....? Anyone else interested in doing that and fancy a team approach ?

Carbon wrapping definitely not easy though as I can vouch from an aborted attempt when it was frankly too windy, too exposed and not enough well prepared hands.

Since Skoda don't make the diesel vrs, I don't really want to lose my economy for a vrs mkII (plus deep down I think I like it more too - the MKII is too narrow and tall for me and I prefer the MKI looks in some ways).

Alternatively as Im effectively running my car as long as can until it becomes economically unviable, I was wondering whether they would maybe do something in the rapid side perhaps, like a rapid vrs that might be worth waiting for ?

TBH buying this car in late dec for a neat price and interest free was a steal.....dunno if I could ever get anything that well buttered a deal again in future. Seats TDIs of similar power are what, £18K+ and thats including offers!

So should I hang on and make her more suited to me.....dunno quite what to do myself.....

EDIT:The feeling kind of comes and goes about the yellow....I posted a pic of my yellow vrs on the photo thread a while ago...

I wonder if I wrapped just the grille in black if that would make the difference lol

I like mine

I know it's not everyone's cup, but really what's the alternative?

I swore I would never have black as it never looks clean and shows all imperfections. I had a silver car a while back (Focus) and had more near misses in 3 weeks than I had in years. Really, folks pulling out, swerving into me etc... dangerous colour. Red I like, but needs regular care and maintenance else it fades. Blue is nice...

I've got to say I was only pondering this exact thing only last week!

I settled for silver as it ticked all the boxes bar the colour.... the mechanics of the car was always number 1.

Now 18 months into a silver ownership it looks exactly how I want it to look. The only issues mechanically has been a failed DMF in the first week of ownership, but that's the previous drivers rubbish driving style causing that.

The only other issues have all been as a result of my tampering so I should be happy, but I long for a red or a black vRS... or a nice shiny blue one at that!

Yes they show the imperfections and need to be cleaned all the time to keep nice, but I have an OCD and actual love spending time on my car making it look good!

Would I swap cars, risking the reliability of my current car.... I dunno, didn't get that far and think I'm stupid for even contemplating if I'm honest!

If Im honest with myself its a bit of a marmite thing...don't you ever get that Bonesetter ?

Sometimes I do love the yellow, but then sometimes feel I'm in a bit of a clown car rather than sophisticated because of the colour.....until you get opportunity to let rip lol

If I got chance probably go for black but red is probably the best / sexiest colour on the vrs IMO, jealous of pristine red vrs owners

Thanks Mr Rooney for the plastidip idea...if you can get the stuff not too expensive then it looks like something I could easily handle diy, looks much easier than vinyl wrap !

If anything, its a sound idea that I could put in practice for my front grille if nothing else, that might change my opinion of my colour a bit.

Might look at lowering it too as that may be a bit where I'm getting the clown idea from lol

Anyone done a whole car like that video ? Its only matt isn't it, do they do different colours ?

black is a nightmare to keep clean and hide all the imperfections, i also think the red one looks better with a black magic wrapped roof.

You could just paint your grille and go from there. What about a black stripe like Minni's have? Don't forget you can easily remove plasti dip. Yes you can have different colours.

The colour really doesn't bother me that much. I had a £500 deposit down on a black one.

If I had a choice between them all it would be between the blue and the red. As for the clowning, well let's face it, there is something in it owning a Skoda Fabia. It's getting less all the time, and with the latest cars looking more quirky, but it's there.

I think you're being too self-conscious, MTFU :)

red all day long

I went out to buy an Octavia combi not even knowing they did a combi in the Fabia. Turned up at the dealers and saw a Fabia combi sport in black and straight away thought it looked the dogs and would be plenty big enough for my needs. However, have a thing about yellow, possibly going back to my 2000E Cortina in Daytona yellow and black vinyl roof (remember them!)back in the day and had done a full re-spray in a very loud Fiat yellow on my old type 2 camper back in the 90's, so I had a bit of a dilemma when it came to choosing the colour for the combi..

To cut a long story short... wife and daughter both swore they wouldn't be seen dead in yellow so black it was.....

Personally, I still think yellow with the tints set against it is a great combination and yes, black is a pain in the aris to keep clean, but does also look the business when it is freshly washed.

Hmmm... I have just spent the evening polishing my Black Magic vRS... And it looks stunning! Apart from the stone chips on the front!

It stays in the garage all week and only comes out at weekends...... And it gets filthy within about 30 miles! and of course it always rains when I drive it!

Sometimes I just take the company van because I can't be bothered to get it dirty and have to wash/polish it again! I never thought a black car would be so much hard work, My Blue M3 used to get washed and polished once a month, It used to hide the dirt well!

Iv thought exactly the same before now, only in reverse. Iv always liked the yellow but could only find a black one when I bought mine. Iv seriously pondered over a respray before now.

The only colour i would change to is red, I think you need to have a word with yourself :hi:

Yellow is the titties

I do like my yellow but i must admit when i see a red one it makes me abit jelus. Also every so ofteni have the urge to paint it that wierd brown the newer vw caddys come in :)

I feel the same way about silver. I wish I got mine in red of black.

The black wheels set yours off well. Likey :)

I love how we all love the cars but all in different colours. Lots of love for red & silver which are my least favourite!

When I first started looking silver was my last option lol ended up getting a silver one lol and haven't looke back, I think it suits the car well showing the lines etc any time I see one in traffic I feel the silver looks the best on the road :) IMO of course lol

Nothing wrong with yellow. 2 out of 3 of my cars have been yellow

My Zr

I like to be different

LOVE the liquid gold colour of the meganes/clios

I have a black vrs and as others have said it's a nightmare to keep clean but the times that it is and polished it looks fantastic :)

My other car's yellow...

I love the yellow tbh mines silver which goes nice :) but is the grass always green on the other side lol

Got a black and a yellow at the moment.

I can only echo the above points, black looks mega just after a clean but gets dirty really quickly.

Yellow shows tar spots up terribly I've recently found. But it seems to stay clean looking for longer

than black that's for sure. Helps that it's petrol so no soot constantly building up on my rear end.

I've got a similar problem with the impending replacement for my Fabia.

Next car will be an S3, I'll probably start looking again in October after my honeymoons over.

Too much stuff on at the moment. I'm really busy getting my jobs finished before the month ends.

For the new car in order of preference I'd like Silver, Dolphin grey or Black. I am coming round

to Sprint Blue though :wonder: I want two tone grey/white and black leather so the paint colour must

work with this combo. I'll have no other interior, that's the problem... Been looking for months but

just can't find the right car. :(

Iv got regrets for black.. really cba cleaning it all the time but at the time thought black was the only colour that looked well as an estate..

..i like red the best..

.. funny because i never liked red cars before.. wierd

I've only ever had red or silver. Silver is rubbish colour. It looks boring all the time, never looks properly clean either, does hide the dirt well.

Red I'm a big fan of, doesn't shine quite like black, but it can look pretty shiny after a good polish.

I'm thinking of white for my next car though, that'll show dirt badly. . . (only got 4 colours of E30 Sports to chose from - white, black (no!), red, or grey).
