Tyres

Featured Replies

I know this is probably one of the most controversial subjects, but anyway.

Tyres! I have 3 of the turanzas and an eagle f1 - as it came from the dealer.

The fronts need replacing (the odd pair)

Do I go for turanzas, to match the rears or something different altogether. After buying the car my wallet is pretty empty so suggestions welcome as to where to get reasonable priced tyres in Sussex...

Congratulations.

I'm running a Toyo T1-R/Turanza front/Rear split at the moment as funds are low.

As below order online & fit locally, or indeed see if your local place will price match. Mine will usually some within a few quid

I've run Toyo T1-R, Hankook, Kumho, and latterly the Turanza's. The first 3 can be had for +/- £60 a corner.

Buy some online from mytyres.co.uk or camskill.com and get them fitted by a local garage for 10-12 quid a corner. MUCH cheaper way than just popping into you local kwik-fit.

Im just about to order 2 new fronts for mine. Think ive settled for uniroyal rainsports as they seem to get a very good write up. there about £65 a piece on camskill at the moment.

Good tyres, fairly quiet with good levels of grip. But downside is they're fairly soft (hence good grip) and can be very sensitive geometry wise with edges going very quickly.

As above, pretty decent but don't expect them to last forever.

These Uniroyals are on the front of mine, too. They're not bad at all really, although when you're pushing on they can start to get skittish on patchy surfaces. A bit twitchy. They're pretty much brand new though; 8mm of tread still on them, so they're staying on for a looooooong time yet. ;)

Ah, not good for mileage out of them then. My other half had a slammed punto on Schmidts, running T1Rs but didn't know if it was ride height, camber and driving style that caused the wear.

Now ordered some falken tyres. Give them a shot, at least I've heard the brand name, unlike infinity. They sound like the camacs I had on my cinquecento...

I don't like t1rs. Never agreed with them on my old car. I ran uniroyal rainsports on my Lcr and they were great, better in the wet I think. For money though you can't go wrong with hankook v12 Evo. That's what I'm getting next. Or vredesteins sessantas but they are higher cost.

Ooo.. I have Falkens 912's?, bit noisy and harsh for the road (thats what I blame it on anyway). I will give the new KU39? Kuhmo's a go personally. Falkens last ok though, think im on about 10k now with 5-6mm? and in terms of performance they're ok too.

£10-12 per corner in Sussex? :giggle: Let me know when that happens. I need to find one of them.

ive just put a pair of kuhmo ku39's on mine and there very good! 156quid fitted but ovarall decent tyre, good wet and dry grip and not bad road noise

I paid £12.50 here last time, but the time before that I popped into kwik fit, and the lad told me to come back at 5:30pm when the boss had gone home and they were happy to do it for £10 a corner cash in hand. Might be woth a try?

Ive just ordered 2x Uniroyal rain sport 2's for the front of my VRS this afternoon.

What a breath of fresh air paying £65 for a half decent tyre. Im used to paying £250 a corner and only getting 6 or 7 thousand miles out of them on my last car haha!

There's a garage by my work that replaced valves and re balanced 2 tyres for a tenner.

Otherwise between my gf and I, we know a few people round my area who work in garages... Haha.

Had loads of T1R's and never had any issues with life. Managed 26k from a set on a 320 brake Scoob :D

Revs of Horsham... little garage!

I have turanzas all round and have been very impressed with them over the 3K miles they have completed. Grip levels wet & dry are faultless

I'm going for some continental contact sport 5's in a 205/40/17 for £123 a corner fully fitted when i'm due a change. I've had all sorts of tyres over the last 123k miles on this car and they all have good and bad points.

Rain sport 2's + great in the wet - deep tread chews up on track

Vredestien sessanta + just great every where - only 215 section so rubbed my wheel arches around the ring.

T1r + good in he wet and cheap - less traction than rainsport.

Michelin primacy + came with car when new - just a bit too sensible

Conti contact 3's + fantastic steering feel - expensive and don't last long.

If you can happily run a 215 section tyre the vredestien sessanta is a good choice. I did find they reduced my mpg a little bit over the rainsports but worth it for the performance.

I recently had two new tyre's fitted recently (Uniroyal Rainsport 2's) and ended up having to get them taken off and refitted due to incorrect fitting/balancing. I took it to my small back street tyre shop locally to me and he charged me £10 to removed both, new valves, clean bead's of the rims up and and refit and balance and fit back onto my car. He charged my dad £20 to remove and fit 4 new tyres last time on wheels off a car. Proper great lil place and he has been there around 20+years now and is really passionate about his job and takes care and pride in it.

This is good feedback, thanks.

Have you got a pic of your car so we can see how low is too low for 215's. Cheers

OP, have you thought about moving to 195/45/16?

4x Toyo T1r for about £200 :) + fitting

I've always stuck to original tyre sizes, you never know when you'll need the extra 10mm of grip haha.

Falkens have arrived and now need fitting...

i was going to do this and i asked my tyre guy about it and he recommended that i didnt change, yes they are cheaper and yes you wont notice any less grip but they are the wrong speed and weight ratings, diesels have heavier engines and need more support from suspension and tyre and 195 tyres are genrally 3 weight groups less, i.e the tyres i got yesterday are 205/45/16 87xl, where as most 195/45/16 are 84l.

So the tyres dont support the weight as much, dont no what effect this would have but cant see it being a great idea
