Vrs test drive wow

Featured Replies

Myself and the other half had a test drive in the new Vrs and were both wowed by the pocket rocket, in going for a drive it was to satisfy our curiosity as we have had a mk1 Vrs from new since Nov 2004 and thought that it would take something special to come up to the same standard and it certainly did and more so much so that we ordered one with delivery early November and also got a fantastic part exchange with VAT free offer.

Good times. You just have to wait now! I was hooked after my test drive at our local dealer. The speed of the DSG gearchanges sealed the deal :) (plus we needed something a bit bigger than the MINI).

Great news. You were the same as me. I traded in a Mk1 vRS for the Mk2 and have never regretted it

Great news. What spec/options did you order.

You never know Skoda may deliver it early :)

Ralley Green metallic with Black roof and dark chrome alloys, incidentally when using the DSG gears in manual I found it awkward in pushing the gear stick forward for up gearing as I drove a triptronic ambulance a few years ago and you pulled back on the gears to up gear and forwards for down the gears. Is this the norm in cars with DSG boxes, I must say when I drove the ambulance I did find it strange to pull back to go up the gears. Never the less a fantastic car to drive and I will get used to the gears.

i remember my first drive.

I came back and said it was gutless had too much body roll and the brakes were rubbish lol. Think i offended a fair few people on here by saying that lol.

I bought it for the potential it had though

It's not a race car! Lol just a nippy practical motor I'd say!

Exactly it's a nippy shopping car not a high performance sports car

It's faster than many high performance sports cars however and often the fastest car in the average car park.

Tony :hi:

Mine should hopefully have somewhere between 240hp/ton and 260hp/ton by the end of next month all things going well. Id say thats pretty high performance all things considered.

I didnt buy it for its stock performance, i bought it for the challenge of making it much faster. Still looks like a Golf Cart though lol. As i said, i thought it was disappointing when it was stock. TBH, there is no way would i have one of these as a standard car.

But it's all relative. Most people who have power always want more, especially if they know if it's easy to obtain. Most of us are like this once you get used to it. For what it is it's quick. It's not a touring car and never will be and is great fun for what it is. Lately people have been getting power obsessed and it's nuts to think that only 10 years ago 400 bhp was in the most up to date Ferrari of the time. Now with a little bit of fettling a Focus RS can achieve this. Now you hear people saying if it doesn't have 250 bhp+ it can't be considered a hot hatch. That's rubbish, its just there's now a class of super hatches. My brother's Swift Sport proves power isn't everything. "Only" 130bhp but a riot to drive on a B road. There's a Top Gear article on their site saying pretty much the same thing about this and the GT86

Next car I'm thinking has to be RWD so by the time I get to selling this one the GT86 will be cheaper. If I do want more power then M3's will be decent money. In fact prices are reasonable now.

Goes to 40 or 60 or 70 or 100 or 120 as about as quick as everything else on the road.

Goes from 50 or 60 to 120-130 quicker than much on the road.

Can lose you your licence the same as everything else on the road.

Can do 42-mpg or even 50 plus mpg when driven like a shopping car.

Can do 22-25 mpg when being driven like an old M3 which is doing 15 mpg & is not keeping up with you.

Just a car & better & Cheaper than a Polo GTi whatever the Official figures say.

(How come the Kerb Weight of a Polo is more than a vRS

& the Gross weight is showing as more ? Why is the Economy and the MPH given as better on a VW or Audi, the tyres wider, the road tax less & the vRS hatch has 25kg weight stuck on the rear?)

Pig Ugly tho & the estate is even fuglier.

(luckily you can not see it when inside, pitty the Gear indicator is not 'Heads up' on within eye level as standard);

I had a VRS for a morning when the dealer had my car to reapir my damaged alloys

I have got to say its stupidly quick when you consider the money you pay.

Would of loved to buy one sadly not sure my wallet could handle it.

Even under the lightest of prods on the accelrator and its seems so eager. Almost as if it wants to push it.

Well thats my opinion.

Just had a call from the dealer to update on build, to be told build week 41 and could have my new Vrs by week 45. Does this sound about right, is 4 weeks the normal time from build to delivery. Really can't wait, going to be really sad to see my mk1 vrs go tho, got really attached to it in 8 years.

Think that was roughly the timings I had when I got mine so sounds right to me.

If you are looking at lowering it the dealer could put on the Skoda approved and supplied Eibachs at PDI which according to someone on another thread gets you the full three years warranty on them alongside the car, rather than the usual one year. Worth a thought!

Thanks Moist von Lipwig what would the price be for supplying and fitting the Eibachs, its not something that I was thinking of but would if the price was right.

Having owned several I'd have to pull you up on that comment :-) even an older m3 would run rings around a stock or mildly tweaked vrs in capable hands & I don't recall the mpg being that bad either.

I think you'd need to go some way (like VRSy has) to be close to the same ballpark & even then I seriously doubt that even a well mod'd FWD car would come anywhere near the thrill of a RWD thorough bred with an LSD.

The vrs is certainly nippy & quick enough for the real world, but I think something RWD with around 250bhp would be closer to perfect.

The VRS can also be fun with some suspension tweaks but in stock form it's not brutal like an m3 can be & even with tweaks lacks the poise & level of feedback. But at the end of the day both are great cars, just in different ways :-)

I think I was quoted about £180 parts and about the same for fitting, as new though they may do you a deal.

Willi, looks like may be having our Furbiez round about the same time :) Mine was checked last week to have build week 43. I have to call the dealer to ask for in update on it as they get once a week.

As far as comparisons go I drove 450 bhpAston on track right after 250bhp Boxster manual. Guess what, Asto was craaap. Then I drove a single seater with 160bhp Ford engine and I had to pull over for a Ferrari driven by BTCC driver as poor chap was not able to overtake me in normal driving lol. Then I still think there is nothing road legal and track running than well tuned 125cc kart screaming 18k rpm :D!

I'd say horses for courses and there is no better combination of price-performance-practicality-running costs than new vRS Fabia!

I need to certainly investigate that! When I bought my Lupo 1.4TDi 9 years ago it was neigh on undeliverable with stock suspension. Bought OEM Eibach springs and big grin never left my face.:). Would you know how much lowered suspension changes insurance premiums as I did take a hit with my Lupo...

sp1ke,

yes i must agree, a M3 can be brutal, a far superior build, and in the capable hands etc.

There are lots of powerful cars that will run rings around a vRS, or should be able to.

In pretty average hands a vRS can just be driven or driven a bit quick, without any real dramas.

Just that the older M3's around my way that are anything near £10,000-£15,000 are gubbed. driven in non cabable hands, or maybe no longer on decent tyres, (there are a few about here, and round about.)

or just when put to the test just not what they might once of been when tested on a narrow back country road where hanging the back end out is not the best styleee.

Surprised that you do not remember how much petrol you needed in your M3's.

'2004 3.3 SMG' 343bhp & needed as light a touch in the dry as much as in the wet.

10 gallons would take me around 250- 300 miles when driving canny. Half that when in a hurry.

Thats not because it did not run right, it was newish when i was driving it.

I could average 26mpg in my 400hp Evo 6 , i'm getting about 30mpg on my 180hp Fabia , i really hope it gets better

I just had a test drive yesterday in a red VRS mk2 estate and really enjoyed it - sport mode was fun when i wanted it to be. But then cruising around the town i slipped it back into drive & enjoyed that too.

Just need to pursuade the mrs now..........

And yes i'm going from a mk1 VRS too!

It does with miles but if you drive it hard it will drop. Averaged 13mpg at Castle Combe. I've found mpg is pretty poor until it warms up but once it does 36-38mpg round town is easy, I had 42mpg driving back from Castle Combe, could have got more but wanted to get home.

Slightly off topic but the last two tanks have been VPower because our local Tescos are useless at restocking Momentum. As far as I can tell it's no faster and at the moment no better on fuel. I'll know of certain when I have to fill up again.
