Vrs test drive wow

Featured Replies

How did everyone get on with going from a manual to the DSG?? And doesnt the dsg need serviced at 40K as well???

This is a different DSG from the 7 speed in the Diesels.

vRS 1.4 tsi DSG, is a Twin Coaxial dry multiple disc clutch, electro-hydraulically operated.

Sealed box & no fluid change required.

I read that the vRS's DSG box has now got a 100,000 mile warranty in China.

(a google might confirm if it is the car, or the box)

How are these engines getting on with oil consumption these days? Have VAG sorted this now?

I also came from a Mk1 vRS. Was only driving 7 miles a day to work 4 times a week. I bought the car and got a new job which was more miles but still didn't warrant a diesel. The DSG box is fantastic and my only problem is holding myself back from driving it quick everywhere. It's a bit too easy. I sometimes miss the interaction of a manual though but have the use of two good manuals so my itch is scratched regularly

i'm having to sell the 3 cars I already have (186bhp Fabia VRS, 140bhp Touran 7 seater & a home built Polo GT coupe) as our circumstances have changed and the touran is just milking me dry every month it seems like recently - bills had been over £500 a month since April - first one thing then another. We no longer need a 7 seater (long story - bought as my wife was pregnant, but lost the baby very far through the pregnancy. But we never got round to selling the car) The fabia VRS is a little too small - kids getting bigger and if we go on holiday etc. And the Polo has no safety features at all - my knees are the crumple zone & my cheeks are my airbags!

But i'm now reading horror stories about gearbox problems and oil consumption - its kind of putting me off!

Not sure what all the fuss is about - yes, mine's used a litre of oil in 6000 miles or so, but virtually all engines use it until they're fully bedded in (i'm not going to say "run in"). I've not heard of any DSG7 problems (ones reported are from the very early days, I think). Just don't molly-coddle it - drive it like normal from day 1 and have no issues. With 3 years/60k warranty, what have you got to be worried about?

...oh, and the Estate is well roomy!

You are surely only reading a few posts on forums where people post about problems.

You are probably not reading posts from the 1000's of owners with no problems.

Saying that,

the estate you are looking at.

It is not the Red vRS @ T&P, sitting at the roadside outside the main door is it?

(cars probably OK, if they now know how to check oil levels. Check the quality tyres that are on it.

BUT..)

I would suggest you avoid them as a supplier,

their workshop is a joke. JMO!!

* I recommended to a member on here with a High Oil consumption problem that he went to them,

waiting to hear how he got on since, but the first experience he had with them was poor i now know.*

Loads of room in an estate. I can fit my road bike in whole with the seats folded flat. Plenty of rear legroom

Yes it's the one at T&P - got the guy down to £12,500. It's still got a years warranty on it. Tyres are fine. But the comps will be going on it anyway like my photoshop. And I'll only use them until the warranty is up. Then it will go to my local specialist for mods & servicing.

I did take it for a run - no blue smoke and liked the dsg. I'm going to check everything over so thoroughly that they'll think I've rebuilt it. I'm going on Saturday with the family. Trolley jack and tool kit in hand!!

Why is the Economy and the MPH given as better on a VW or Audi, the tyres wider, the road tax less & the vRS hatch has 25kg weight stuck on the rear?)

Could it be that the Fabia has the aerodynamics of a garden shed?

Tony

Do they?

Pretty narrow and cuts through the air pretty well does it not?

Side winds might be having a Garden Shed type battering on an Estate, but then you do not get that option from VW or Audi.

The Pictures on Google Images of the Road Legal Garden Shed on the drag strip are under Copyright sadly.

Nice one George !

In the end I decide the VRS estate wasnt for us - we bought a Vw Jetta instead! :giggle:

You still keeping your wheels?

Second bags on the wheels please.

(if they are as in the image)

Getting back to the whole test drive thing that originally started the thread (funny how they wonder sometimes  ).

When buying the wife's vRS we looked at loads of options, Honda Jazz, Mitsubishi colt, Nissan Note, Toyota Yaris etc. etc. finally she narrowed it down to either an Audi A1 (standard 1.2 TSi) or the vRS, she drove both, loved the A1, but on driving the vRS, she got back to the dealers and basically asked where she had to sign ! bought the show room display model (30 miles on the clock, 10 of we we put on), and picked it up within a week

I was driving an Hyundai Coupe 2.0l SE at the time, loved it to bits, but found when given the chance I would drive the vRS at every opportunity  so I went and ordered my own, managed to get one in from another dealership so only had to wait 3 weeks !

I know what you mean Panther, I went looking for a Monty diesel,( which are as rare as hens teeth) and my mate james1 took me out for a spin in his VRS..... I was hooked 3 weeks later I took delivery of my pocket rocket. I try to find reasons to go out for a drive because it is a pleasure to drive and I love burning off other cars at lights. LOL. Ron.

I had a test drive in a Octy TSi vRS yesterday and couldn't believe how slow it felt compared to the Fabia vRS

And it should, heavier, softer susp., less power to weight ratio... Have a go at driving Club100 kart and then tel me how it felt driving your Fabia back home from the track. I thought somebody exchange the internal combustion engine with one senile donkey :D.

I drive 1.4 TDi Lupo with 80bhp and 200torques on lowered OEM springs and I am yet to find a car (in the price bracket ) giving me same level of feedback, driving pleasure and sensation of speed - it weight 1tonne. Need to try Catherams I suppose!

couldn't believe how slow it felt compared to the Fabia vRS

That's unfortunately how I felt with my Hyundai Coupe, 140bhp pulling a big heavy car, not a great combination

I had a test drive in a Octy TSi vRS yesterday and couldn't believe how slow it felt compared to the Fabia vRS

Slower, but however it drives SO MUCH BETTER. I dont think its actually slower tbh, probably very very smilar in pace, its just the Fabia so small and loud feels like its going faster than it is. The Octavia masks the feeling of speed well

That was always my problem with cars, they are brilliant on paper and do good lap times but there is no pleasure in driving them - that "feeling" is missing. It means different things for diff ppl so...
