15K Service

Featured Replies

Hi, I am soon going to get my car serviced for the first time at 15k, I have a fabia 1.2 tsi. I have a few questions.

1. I plan on doing it myself as the service costs $350 AUD otherwise. Will it void the warranty?

2. Should I use 5w30 or 0w40? The manual does not specify anything.

3. I can't decide between these brands, mobil1, castrol edge, motul. Which is best for the 1.2 tsi?

4. Do I need tools such as oil filter tightener or can it be hand tightened?

5. How much oil does the engine hold?

Sounds like it will Void your Warranty.

?What does the Warranty say?

What does the Dealership say?

*It might only be an Oil Change/Inspection Service,

but do you know what to check ? or can you update or do Warranty work or even check what is required.

when is the next service?

You do not seem to know what oil you need, or tools, even the Oil Capacity/requirement, ie 3.6 ltires or what ever.

(Have you read the 'Owners Manual' yet ?)

so can you use an 'Independent garage'?

As you know Australia is a big place with different climates and Ambient Temperatures and seasons.

So where are you are?

What is the weather, or possible weather! Min & Max temps you can expect ??

Best check locally if you require 0w-40 or 5w-30

Mobile 1 will maybe run cooler,(cost more) Castrol Edge will be good. (Do you need or want?)

Maybe see what a Local Motor Factor or Dealership advise.

Saying where you are in a big continent ,

is a good idea really, and do you know what you are needing to do!

this is what i am saying really.

1. Not sure about Australia but the general theme in UK is that for the warranty to remain intact genuine Skoda parts are to be used and conducted by a VAT (tax) register person/garage and a competent person.

2. Oil is specified in the UK manual but not in the pil change section! My manual has it on page 195 under the specifications. Specifies VW504 00 or 502 00 (depends on service interval) which I think is generally 5w30. Amount is 3.6 ltrs.

3. 1 ltr of edge was supplied with mine and that is what I use (vRS likes oil!). Variuos people on here will choose this or others you mention. Personally as long as it meets vw502/504 spec then is fine.

4. Not sure manual doesn't seem to mention a torque.

5. As for 3, see page 195ish mine says 3.6 for the 1.2 tsi but make sure yourself.

Hope that helps.

$350 AUD seems high as it converts to £230ish. Most on here seem to pay about £100 (150 $AUD) ish as the 1year is fairly basic.

Here everydealer charges $350 independants usually $150, no oil came with mine, I live in melbourne, so min temp is around 2 winter time and max in summer 45C all the manual says is vw 504 00 not the type of oil, I have heard that mobil 1 is the best oil, here mobil 1 costs the same or a little cheaper as castrol. I have a feeling I will need 5w30, 0w40 at 15,000km as I dont want it to burn any oil. Intervals is every 15,000km or 1 year.

Vw504/502 is the VW spec, 5w30 or 0w40 is the general oil specification for temp and viscosity (iirc). To get the VW502/504 classification the oil companies need to pay to get tested to the specs setdown by VAG, it will say on the bottle if it meets the VAG spec, jus look at the back in the smallish print.

1ltr bottle of oil seems to be supplied with the vRS as its engine has a tendency to eat oil, just do a search for oil in the Furby 2 forum!
