Correct Oil Type

Featured Replies

Hello all,

A question that i still have unanswered regarding correct oil for my DTSB 2.0 diesel engine

On the Skoda website using my VIN and looking at the manual the recommendation for the oil is 5W-30 VW504 00 spec! (as i write this I either remember wrongly but currently the site suggests to follow the sticker instructions (Mandela effect!?))

Anyways, upon opening the engine bay there is a sticker notifying oil use of VW 508 00 / VW509 00 / SAE 0W-20.

Well this is confusing. If it was only the Hot Rating different i would be ok since i am in Greece and generally the weather is not too cold, :) but this suggests a different Viscosity as well.....

Last oil change i took the privilege of spending ~70euros on getting 5l of Castrol Edge 5W-30LL and used that.

What is your recommendation on this? Should i change the oil to 0W-20 or the 5W-30 is ok!?

Welcome.

A mod can move your post to the correct section. What car is it? EDIT. A Kodiaq,

The 0w 20 FS IV is right if the sticker is there.

If you do not want to use VW 508 00 / 509 00 but VW504 00 / 507 00 instead you could use 0w 30 FS III.

sorry for posting on the welcome page.....completely missed that...

As @Ootohere says, use what the sticker says or if you want to change, try 0/30. 5/30 would be a bad idea IMO.

It's a complicated business, choosing an oil. Manufacturer-specified oils may not be best for the health of the engine, but may prioritise low emissions and fuel economy.
