DPF Process Octavia VRS TDI 2013 & OIL Burn

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Car has done 160,000 miles. The DPF light came on and the car went into limp mode. I put it into the garage and the o2 sensor needed replaced and the DPF was cleaned twice. It was cleaned to the differential pressure sensor lower limit value was just met.

I have driven it 300 miles on the motorway and the dpf symbol has come on twice along with the orange warning light. Each time the light and symbol has went off on its own. It resets when I stop but leave the engine running for a few minutes until the fan goers off and then it resets and stays off.

Is this normal? I have never realised previously that the regen is happening when the symbol comes on.

I'm also now losing 1 litre of oil to 400 miles of driving, no smoke or leaks showing. It was 1000 miles per litre previous to the DPF issues. Has anyone had any experience with this coming hand in hand or is it purley coincidental.

Thanks,

Craig.

Blimey - that's not good. The minimum mileage of distance to oil is 0.5l per 1000 kms so you are well under that.

Assume you have the TDI180 engine; generally good engines. With that kind of oil usage, there has got to be a fairly catastrophic level of consumption going on.

Check your EGR valve is not bypassing oil into the burn cycle. Also check that the turbo hasn't failed and is bypassing oil too. It's also a possibility that you have serious engine wear or the oil rings have stuck one of the cylinders. Check your coolant - if you have oil in there, it maybe the cylinder head gasket that has failed.

P.S. the reason why you have the DPF light on is because the fact that engine oil is getting into the DPF and blocking it up. Urgently suggest getting it to a local VAG specialist for attention.

+1 for above.

You should have no lights/warning when everything is working correctly even during regeneration.

Unburnt oil in the system can clog up, pressure, temperature and air flow sensors & oil in the DPF will definitely cause problems when it regenerates leading to excessive temperatures and cracks in the substrate (new filter needed).

@varaderoguy The VW Group / Skoda figure for May use as much as is 0.5 litres / 1,000 km.

That is 1 litres 1,242 miles.

It is in Owners Manuals for a couple of decades now for engines petrol or diesel and from 44 kW up and 3,4,5,6,8 or 12 cylinder engines.

Even that is too much oil use. & they say may use more in the first 5,000 km.

Apologies... couldn't remember if it was 0.5l or 1litre. Anyhow OP car is still using waaayy to much oil. I've edited my previous posting.

Yikes! Danger, Will Robinson.

Some sort of expert intervention is needed ASAP.

I have a problem on my Skoda octavia Vrs 2014 Diesel the DPF sensor was changed and the dpf is only 5% blocked and yet the car gows into the regeneration mode every time i turn on the car and shows that "engine must be running"(Start stop system) works couple of minutes and then the car goes into the regeneration mode everytime.

Consumptions are very high and the car runs very hand doesn t drive smooth.

I have done the regeneration at a Workshop and still the car goes into regeneration again and again every day

Can someone help me with this problem

I'm experiencing a similar issue. I've burned through 1l of oil in 630 miles and recently had the DPF warning twice which resets when the ignition is turned off.

Have you had your issue checked by a mechanic? It'd be interesting to know what they've discovered.

If any car is burning that much oil, it needs attention.
