Prince Naseem Hamed, a former world featherweight champion, was today released on bail after he was arrested over a crash which left a man seriously injured.

The flamboyant fighter was questioned with two other men on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury and allegations that they attempted to pervert the course of justice.

Police detained the 31-year-old after his high-powered Mercedes, a Volkswagen Golf and a Ford Mondeo were in collision in Ringinglow Road, Sheffield. The Golf driver was trapped in the car and had to be airlifted to the Northern General Hospital, with a suspected broken leg and fractures to both arms. A female passenger in the car also suffered cuts and bruises. The occupant of the Mondeo was not thought to have been seriously injured.

A police spokesman said that the three men had been arrested at an address near to the incident by police who went to find them. The collision, which the spokesman described as "complicated", happened at about 2.30pm. One of the 26-year-old men under arrest had been taken to hospital suffering from chest pains.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said today: "Three men have been released on bail this morning to a date in August. They were arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury and suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice."

nugget, throw the book at him!

Saw one of these on the M1 today. There's me doing a very unusual 75 as it came past at rate of knots. Unfortunataly there was a traffic cop just coming down the slip road as he went by, oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

Must have been a very hefty collision to do that much damage to the Merc!

It looks like it's probably an NSL road , so if we assume he was doing about 70 as he overtook and the other car was doing about 50 then you have a closing speed of 120mph at the point they saw each other.

They both have some time to brake so at the point of collision they might have still been doing 80mph towards each other.

Obviously not enough power in that SLR to overtake a Mondeo! :D

This is a joke! Honest!

lets just hope the guy in the golf isn't too badly hurt.

Looks like a hidden dip to me.

NAS1 heading would not of seen a car in the dip...really expect him to be @ 70 on that road if he's local in the slr?

But then one should be aware of the dip and it's deep enough to loose a car I reckon, if not easily..so friend in car yabba yabba overtak slap.

Golf looks very bad, but hten if trappe the firebrigade quite rightly don't see metal as somthing to look after.

Indeed hope the golf and mondeo drivers are ok...amazing how haunting a moment like that could be for years.

He's lucky it wasn't me: I'd have decked him :D

I was scratching my head over that part of the story - why do a runner when the police are going to have an easy time working out who the car belongs to? They'd have been waiting for him before he had a chance to get home :)

What a prat, he deserves all that's (hopefully) coming to him. I laughed at the apparent running off afterwards - rare supercar with NAS 1 as a plate, hmmm difficult one that!

Fingers crossed for the Golf and Mondeo victims.

Steve

P.S. Is it my imagination or was there a news story a few years back about him coming off worse from a fight in a chip shop?!!

Because they can pretend that the car ws stolen , or avoid a breath test for a day because they were ****ed.

Thats the usual two reasons

3 in a SLR would be "snug" :D

Never thought of that

Had three of us in a Z4 once and that was bleedin tight. Two biggish men/one passenger seat.Suppose he's only a wee little lad Princess Nas :)

Does that mean one of them wasn't wearing a seat belt??

Could have been that the two other guys were driving in the SLR uninsured, paniced and went back to Naseem's house. Then when interviewed by police they wouldn't say who was driving so all 3 were arrested.

3 Words for ya...

Marco Antonio Barrera....

:D

This happened not far from me on a road I know well (although I didn't know about it until it was on the news) the road is uphill and dead straight but does have a number of hidden crests, hence the solid whites you can see in some of the pictures. It's also only about a mile from Nas's house. My guess is, as suggested earlier... driver of SLR giving it some and thinks road is clear (possibly not knowing it) so goes for an overtaking manouevre when the Golf appears. The SLR apparently hit the Mondeo, span off the road and into the oncoming Golf. My guess is that there were either three in the SLR or the driver was uninsured so they legged it back to Nas's house where they were arrested.

Nas also wrote off a Ferrari last year on an M18 sliproad after a "fox ran out in front of him"... yeah right... the thing then was that he didin't even own the car but was on a test drive!

tough lil buggers them foxes then!! :D
