  • So, another day and more updates, the car is being painted tomorrow so these are the last prep pictures! The bay all masked up I opted to have VW rubberised spray sealer under the wings and ski

  • The car should be ready for me to be pick it up tonight! These pictures are from this morning       Spray sealer on the inside of the wings         Might have some some more interes

  • Another big weekend on the fabia!    My fuel for the weekend started with this 40oz mixed grill     Got all my boost pipes back and inlet too, now with v-bands welded too

That looks epic. Will you need swayed edges on the manifold to keep the pipes from popping off?

Thanks mate me too!!

No mate, it's having a vband welded to the end, just so I don't have to have a silicone connector and 2 hose clips

Also got the box painted

Ah good plan mate :)

Manifold does look good :)

I love V bands, but not 100% sure on there sealing ability tbh.

I've used one on the exhaust on my kit car and it doesn't seal totally as I can see soot on the insides of the actual clamp when it's removed.

so when you are pushing circa 2.5 bar of boost through the intake I think they will leak a bit.

In all honesty mate I have never had any experience, long story short I ordered one from china and I got a notice saying I had to pay to get the item, so i told the company to stuff it. I then ordered one from Darkside which was fine, then for some reason the other one turned up too.

Now, comparing thew 2 pieces of kit, the billet caps of the Darkside one just butt up together, whereas the one from china they have inner rim of the billet caps interlock which for sealing purposes should be much better so I'm going to use the Chinese one!

Ordered loads of other little bits the other day too, A new dipstick, a new dipstick sleeve (orange bit), Oil housing gasket, new fuel filter, new oil filter, new thermostat, tandem fuel pump gasket, managed to pick up a brand new foglight for £15 which most people will know are expensive for a vrs so that was a bargain, and a new auxiliary belt for my aircon delete.

Ah right, got a link to the Chinese ones please so I can have a look :)

Maybe tempted to use them if they do alloy ones.

Are you doing all your boost pipes in stainless?

I see what you mean, like the look of those tbh :)

You won't weld stainless to alloy at all!it won't

I can vouch for them that they are decent!

That's what I mean, Looks like the boost pipes are getting made from aluminium then

I have just checked and the flanges are made from steel.

Made of high quality stainless steel

Clamp is made of T-304 Stainless Steel
Flanges is made of T-409 Steel "

What size belt did you go for, for your air con delete? And did you need to get a different type of tensioner or just use the normal one?

Car is looking very well, hopefully see it at some shows the year?!

Made good progress tonight, Primed, painted and lacquered the tandem fuel pump, alternator (even masked over the copper to retain colour), water pipe.

The list so far, I have repainted the oil housing, complete with new filter, O-ring and gaskets

Tandem fuel pump painted, all new gaskets.

Alternator refurbed

Water pipe refurbed

New dipstick tube (metal bit), new orange sleeve, new dipstick itself

Repolished all the chrome

Painted the gearbox and lacquered

Painted the block and lacquered

v-band welded onto inlet manifold, bolted up with a new gasket

Waiting for exhaust manifold as I'm having an adaptor flange made, that can be bolted up with new gasket too. (refurbed the bottom oil return), Then the turbo can be bolted up with new braided oil feed, (new downpipes gasket too)

Then I can start mocking up the hard pipes to be custom made.

I really am getting there now, there will be pictures to follow soon

Yes mate, going smoothed and colour coded  :D  I completely agree, I have also ordered a part that even skoda themselves have to order direct for, Its the heat shield that goes onto the bulkead, half material and half is like foil.

Its going to come to around £110 for a heat shield haha But considering I have nothing in the engine bay I need it, as it will be very visible

Made good progress today again, all ancillaries bolted up, new oil feed in, manifold on, still waiting on turbo and exhaust manifold to come back from my mates. New sump fitted, but run into a problem with the quick shifter.

Old sump off

Weapons of choice to change the dipstick tube, what a slut of a job.

As you can see the pivot point is miles out, gonna have to get my mate to make me up an adaptor that bolts through the old pivot point with a tube for the new pivot point to go through, not going to be easy, if the fulcrum is out I'm sure it won't engage gear. I'll have to have a think
