Just a bit of an update really,

I have found a Fabia on eBay, It is really well speced up. It has, xenon's, factory sat nav, maxi-dot clocks, and it runs 220 bhp.

So, Im going to look at it this weekend, and may end up buying it ha The plan is basically, strip anything I want off it and put the other parts back on it from my fabia and sell it again,

It will still be mint too because the items from my other fabia are in really good condition anyway

There has been a slight development on me buying the 220hp VRS, I have just put a deposit down on xaviers VRS, I know this has been built properly, I have read the thread back to front more than once, I think we all know this was a bargain.

I hope to have the new engine in and running by next year, I will keep you updated on everything that oocurs, Plus if anyone is interested in his old car with the engine out of mine in it, contact me!

I let my sump and a cat's eye together for just a second and they fell out

On a lighter note, here are both of my cars, with another one coming along very soon.

Nothing at all, it happened just before I got home and got my uncle to tow me into the garage haha

£56 and a bit of time and all is sorted.

That's alright then. Have you got a shallow sump?

No, it's having a normal sump put back on, because it only had a few more shows then xaviers engine will be going in, that will get one.

So, now that the wheels are in motion for the engine upgrade, I have started to look around at other performance items i can add whilst the motor is out,

Here is a inlet from profidiesel to allow for maximum flow and distribution

Plus, A sigma 6 quick shift kit, which should roughly half the throw

I shall keep you updated once everything is underway

They look awesome. Got a link to the quick shifter? I've been looking for ages and everyone I've seen has suggested not for the Fabia :(

Awesome thanks :)

So, its been a long time since an update and a lot has happened since then, I went down to reading to pick the car up of xav, I have to say the care is a lot quicker than what I expected, Going from 130hp to 282hp was a nice surprise.

I drove it for about a month to check everything was good, There are a few small issue that need to be ironed out, such as the breaks binding slightly when they get hot, also break judder due tot the disks being warped, I will be having the disks machined down to eradicate this problem. So after having some enjoyment out of the car and using it everyday for work, I cant wait to get it into my other car now

So, I set to taking the engine out and breaking the old car itself, Im very glad I took the engine out as the was a lot of oil on the block and In traffic there was always a wiff of oil inside the car too

There was a few mods which could of lead to the oil, such as the oil return, which will be replaced with a custom braided line

There was a few tings like this

Decided agaisnt top mounting the turbo too, Because the turbo itself has some end float, Im using the money to get that refurbed instead and a new equal length manifold, all new gaskets and possibly a LSD

Few more pics

Started to take everything off, as the AC will be deleted again, i also need to split the box and block and get it on a stand so i can paint it properly

I have been a bit slow on the updates recently, Plenty happening but I am waiting on things now really.

The black fabia has been completely stripped now every nut and bolt taken out, the engine block and nearly stripped back enough to paint,

the new inlet manifold is on back order due to the being out of stock, but will be sent as soon as they have them back in stock, and this aswell...

This should be back with me this Thursday, I have asked for before and after photos so you can see the difference

Good progress Jack, the blocks are a pig to paint and get nice but worth it in the end

Do you have a vacuum gauge? If so would you mind testing to see at what vacuum it takes for the actuator to hit the stop screw.

Keen to see how this turbo performs as I like turbo dynamic hybrids.

Unfortunately I don't mate so I wouldent be able to let you know!

Me too mate! I will be happy at around 310, with the turbo being capable of a lot more

Thanks mate, They really are mate haha absolute nightmare to prep!

Well, After a lot of back and forth messages, i'm afraid the hybrid turbo wont be happening.

In no way whatsoever am I slagging turbo dynamics off, they have been brilliant and very quick to respond to my emails.

Here are just a few quotes from the guys at turbo dynamics

"The technicians have found a few things on the turbo which aren’t what we usually see. See the attached picture. Without meaning to be rude and with no offense intended, the turbo is a bit of a DIY job!

The vanes are in a fully closed position and various bits have been welded in place. So we won’t be able to flow test this turbo.

Are you happy for us to carry on with it? It means any fine tuning and set up will be your responsibility once you refit the turbo, as we cannot test it here"

"everything is moving freely and working OK, it’s just the turbo has been set up badly. Lots of poor welding and bits of metal tacked on where they shouldn’t be. We can’t do anything about that."

"Well in the closed position, the vanes are actually completely closed, which they shouldn’t be. They should be open slightly when you are at idle and off throttle. This won’t be possible to set however because the stop has been welded in the wrong place.

This will probably make the turbo quite laggy"

"Hi Jack,

I have spoken with our senior technician and I’m afraid we just aren’t happy with this unit. It really isn’t great and we wouldn’t be happy putting our name to it, and we certainly wouldn’t want anything to fail or damage your project car.

We will get the unit packed up and returned to you free of charge.

It’s difficult to offer anything as a bolt on replacement for this turbo as firstly it’s quite a rare (expensive) base turbo from an Audi Q7, and secondly it has been extensively modified in quite a poor fashion.

Sorry we couldn’t help with this. If you have someone else in mind that you would like us to send the turbo to, please let me know."

As I said, very professional and quick to respond, this is neither mine or his fault.

Probably just gonna bolt it back on and see how we go, it boosted great (a touch laggy) and the play in the shaft was very minimal it was just me being fussy. Not the outcome I wanted.

Who's done the work on the turbo before then?

Sounds quite bad that they wont touch it, most companies would 'fix' the issue but for them to basically say it's beyond sorting seems like the initial job was very poor.

Pip, I don't know, I'm not gonna be that guy that starts shouting names and blaming people, All i will say is, I wish some people would do a job properly.

He did say the turbo is okay, He would just struggle with actually setting it up, things are not seized, But I don't blame him not wanting to touch it.

Can turbo Dynamics actually supply a GTB based turbo? As in a 2260/2265 etc?

I can thoroughly understand them not wanting to mess if it's as they say, otherwise it's a can of worms isn't it going forwards.

Hope you get some sort of solution mate
