does this need a cover?

Featured Replies

Im pretty new to the skoda's engine compartment and this just looks to me like it should be covered.

slightly concerned about the ingress of dirt/muck into it as where i live is very rural with muddy roads.

TBH that looks kak and oily with gunk in it. If it were mine, I'd clean it up as best I could and look for any minor leaks of fuel. Check all the pipes for corrosion and the clips are secure.

i'll give it a good clean out this weekend, i was curious though as should it open to the elements as it is at the minute.

I'd say that's had copper slip put on it to prevent corrosion. As long as there's no fuel leak, probably best left unless it bothers you

If you fit (another) seal to the engine bay it will keep a lot of crap out, the MKI Superb had a seal on the slam panel, I fitted one of these to my MK2 and it helps a lot.

Any chance of pics / write-up? I'd be interested in fitting one, especially before the winter. Have noticed the bonnet/engine bay gets very mucky

I will try to take a photo Friday or Saturday for you.

What about ACF50, mine has a fair amount of rust in it, looking to give it the ACF50 treatment as an option?

I've fitted a bonnet seal to mine using an expanding tape, it's like a heavy duty gap-filling, draught excluder used in the HVAC industry, it stops most of the crap getting real well.

After forgetting last weekend  here you are:

As you can see from the front shot, the seal has nowhere to attach to at the sides, this does not seem to be an issue though and it has not come away in over 20K miles.

HTH

Thanks for pics. Where can I buy one and how much?

I bought mine from eBay, it was a 'new old stock' from a Passat B5 / MKI Superb, IIRC I paid about £10 for it..

Done this mod and it works a treat. Cost less than a tenner so well worth it

The OP's car looks very much like an Octavia to me, no issue though as the fuel filter is the same on the Superb.

For what it's worth my fuel filter lid corroded and began to leak, quite an expensive fix, so I actually like the look of the OP's - full of WD40 and copper slip.

It may not look pretty but it's the best way for longevity!

£160 for a new housing so well worth keeping the rust off it if you can.

If you fancy a nice new clean coolant bottle they are just over a tenner at GSF.
