Fabia vRS Front mount I/C

Featured Replies

I can't recommend the quality of Allard's fabrication, parts and customer service highly enough.

Even when it was obvious they were not going to complete the work on my car later Friday afternoon they offered me a hire car (stopped me getting stick from wife!)

I think the pipework is routed neatly and efficiently in terms of thermodynamics and abrasive potential.

May I suggest that someone contacts them 01452 500333 and speaks with Alan or LLoyd Allard about a group buy.

When you consider all of the organisations offering remaps and tuning boxes it's only Allard's that race vag engined tdi's - that's commitment for you.

Best wishes

John

It is indeed ;):D

Shall we start an orderly queue!!!

hmmm... clutch or fmic, clutch or fmic, clutch or fmic, clutch or fmic... :tempted: lol

Hi,

Hi John, did you get your intake sorted out as i IIRC it had to be rerouted due to routing of IC outlet pipe.

I know our cars aren't strictly comparable, but this evening John Yardley and I got together for a Vag Com session with his car.

His Allard intercooler (the one in the Allard brochure) produces really low temperatures - the max recorded in some very spirited driving was 45

Good post.

The Allard IC certainly seems to be working very well. Would be very interested to see results after you have fitted the IC spray Bryan.

When I had my Felicia with drum brakes, I developed a road test to see if they were binding. Drive down this road and aim to hit a fixed point at 70 mph, then knock it into neutral and try to coast to the end.

Here's a comparison of John Yardley's Allard FMIC car and mine doing just that - the FMIC doesn't even break into a sweat!

Two very interesting graphs there. Nice one! Wonder how hot June 18th is gonna be?

Thats a significant difference! how much is the FMIC? obviously if it doesnt cut the slam panel I would be very interested & is the pipe work very noticable, I mean I now people will tell I have a FMIC but I dont want blue pipes all over the engine bay! and also, would I need to get my car remapped again afterwards?

I'm the opposite. I want as many shiny pipes with blue bits, in visual sight as possible. ;) Think this might be of interest to you. :D

No remap required, but I might if I get other bits done. Not sure yet, still in early stages of enquiry.

John? Thats not your Fabia featured in the PDF file from Allard is it?

Be patient my children... as an alternative is on the horizon.. but unfortunately wont be in time for brunters :(

Some nice graphs there bryand..

just got a couple of things to clarify for the masses.

A) a remapped RS would be running higher boost (mine is around 1.5bar and peaks at 1.8) so there would be more heat

B) bryand also has the arch vent mod.. which enhances his cooling.

im just gonna get some logs off the lapdog and post my graph :o

Two good points to remember for the masses indeed! The decent gaps shown above are the NEAREST they'll be to each other. Bryand could only go and get higher temps with a remap alone, from that "i guess lower level" due to the arch venting mod.

Heres a quick graph i knocked up from some collected data..

this is by no means scientific, was the only section of data i have so far with a decent boot of throttle :D

pls note that the time is approximate (it was logging slightly slower than 1/s so its rounded up, in accurate terms its about 15 seconds of full throttle.)

also, it may not be representative of day to day driving.. eg, if your hooning round wales/cumbria with twisty roads, you will likely to be going slower, and revving engine more... creating more heat and having less airflow to dissipate it - this happened to me when chasing ColinD cross country, intake temp went over 90c and the ecu pulled the boost back.

15 seconds to get to 70c is scary! and i definately wouldnt class it as a warm day either plus it was raining which would help!

Nice one Col! Very enlightening. - 4500rpm in fourth eh? ;) private road was it?! :P

edit: forgot about six speed gearing - may be different speed to that RPM in mine - Its about 120mph in mine I think.... actually, think its about 115.. :o

not too far off in mine... 110 i think. (old style leggy gearbox)

6th is good for about 170 on the limiter :D

I think mines good for 150+ if I hit the limiter - It's never got over 3500/3600rpm before though, in fifth, as this is where the old limiting thingy kicks in (although this is somewhat overcome by the remap, to a point)

Anyway, I digress - back to cooling.

Bryan, good post thanks.

Air intake still not sorted, thinking about getting a bmc cda when money permits.

Samco blue pipes - it's possible to get them in black!

'Devon' when you say that's when the thingy kicks in do you mean the electronic 'governor'?

Hopefully, Bryan and I will take the 'lapdog' out when I have the turbo fitted plus remap (poss pd130 injectors) and do a comparison.

Great meeting with you Bryan.

Cheers

John

N.B Did I calculate max boost pressure correct 1.458 bar at 3024 rpm?

I did mean that governor thing - limiter whatever it is. Remapped now to 150hp, means I can extend that to about 130mph, but it won't go beyond that, despite the spare RPM of 1000revs to the limiter. :(

Whats that about turbo and remap? ;)

thatll be aerodynamics...

fabia is about as aerodynamic as a brick..

fabia is about as aerodynamic as a brick..

Sounds like there's only one way around that then?! ;)

Silly Q, but would lowering the car make any difference? I prob think not, as its the same brick moving through the same air, just a couple of inches closer to the road. Was wondering though. :)

I suppose you could modify the front of the vehicle to get the air past it more easily :D - bit extreme though ;)

no.

the biggest issue is the shape. the steep back end creates huge drag and a "vortex" behind the car (thats why it always gets muccky first)

the octy is much better, hence why a octy is faster than a leon etc.

also in your case jason, your wheels add unsprung weight to the car.. thats why i got rid of the RSRs as the car is noticeably faster without... and im not a tart :D
