Fabia vRS Front mount I/C

Featured Replies

Just trying to gauge interest to see what (if any) interest there would be for a Forge developed front mount intercooler for the fabia RS.

As you will know on a chipped furby the standard I.C struggles to cope, in my other thread about intake temps, on a mild day (14c, rain) , accellerating hard thru 3rd and 4th gear resulted in inlet temps hitting 70c before i ran out of road. also, last night on a cool evening on a spirited drive chasing colinD, i quickly exceeded the 90c "failsafe" temperature causing the engine to reduce boost.. and this is only going to get worse as we head into summer.

so, im looking into getting a fmic kit made by forge for the fabia.. and would like to know who would be interested in one?

no idea on price yet, but as a *very rough* guide... around the

Colin - Count me in, buddy! Been looking into changing my finances to be able to afford something like this, and some other bits. ;) What about fitting though? I heard some chopping of the slam panelling is needed.

As Jason, I'm interested........................but depending on:-

1. Price

2. Means of fit. i.e. Allard FMIC for PD100 Fabia needs a chunk of the slam panel cuuting out.

I'll be having a chat with the guys @ Forge this weekend.

colin as would I be interested I'd put other plans on hold possibly (though I do need to get kim a car first opps). Being in London and gettin stuck in traffic I'm guess I'll suffer very badly with this :o

also if it's the right price and as has been said above.

I dont know... lol

i presume one must fit as the beezer cupra one almost fits..

this will be a custom job so will hopefully fit well

Allard FMIC has the inlet & outlet at opposite ends. The outlet goes up & over the rad, hence cutting the slam panel. Where as the Ibiza Cupra has them at the same end (I think!).

Before you go to mad with this Neo have you looked into a spray system for the I.C. ?

90C is bloody high.

FMIC from forge sounds nice if its like their other kits. Would be well worth it I think if people are after constant power. Be interesting to see how they make it fit without much cutting.

Would like to put my name down but due to funds no can do...

I have considered a spray.. but im lazy when it comes to filling me washer bottle anyway, and when its full im very overzelous on the washers :D

If you're overzelous with your credit card too, count me in :D

After all, I guess I represent Briskoda's best fabia guinnea pig candidate ;)

Oh, and I may well be interested even if you don't want to swipe it baby one more time... :o

I've been logging intake temperatures on my vRS, which, because it isn't remapped, will be seeing less of a problem than tuned cars. Can I make a couple of suggestions?:

a) If you haven't already cut ventilation holes in the wheel arch liner (to improve airflow through the intercooler) do so, and see if it reduces the problem by limiting the maximum temperature attained and increasing the rate at which the temperature falls after an acceleration event.

B) Temporarily remove the grille surrounding the OS foglight so the cooling air has less of a dog-leg path to the intercooler. Ideally, remove both the grille and the foglight itself but that's a bit of a bitch to do by all accounts.

Trying to get repeatable conditions will be difficult, but I'll try to compare a) and B) to see if there any significant change, and report back.

During a lively 100-minute drive in an ambient temperature of 22

I would also be interested depending on prices and fit. I am looking at more consistent performanceas it does tend to drop off after a bit of leasurely driving. :D

Colin,

I would definately be interested. However, I would like the fitment to be a la ibiza cupra tdi - ie. with the inlet and outlet pipes being on the LHS as you look at the car from the front. This will mean no unsightly pipework as seen on the Allard kit.

Would the

Thanks BryanD - interesting info for sure :D - might do a little cutting in the near future ;)

I think its just the way allard designs its I/Cs.

I noticed that the Octy item from forge actually includes a modified crash bar to avoid creating any weakness in the structure of the car... quite neat i thought :) not sure if this would be needed for the furby.. theres a fair bit of space in the bumper... begging for a fmic :D

I wonder if Allard do their FMICs the way they do because of air-flow. The entry and exit points on their intercooler are at opposite ends of the heat exchanger. As such, the air flow is linear. Intercoolers with entry and exit on the same side result in the air having to travel through a curved path at best. This could well hamper air flow/increase resistance and therefore reduce the efficiency of the cooling.

I don't know how much difference this would make in reality, but it could explain the choice of design...

Might have to have a word with Forge tomorrow when I'm at Inters. :D

Did anyone speak to forge? ;)

Didn't get a chance to in the end. They did have some nice looking shiny bits on the stand though. :D

Its going to happen, been talking with Colin and we are arranging a car in the near future , the kit will come complete with everything needed to make a neat install.
