iPhone 5 or Next iPhone...

Featured Replies

So Apple are leading people to think they are announcing the release date for the new iPhone on the 12th September. If this follows other announcements then it could mean the iPhone 5 will be out within a few weeks of this.

Who's excited like me! Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!

  • If apple spent half as much time on r&d as they do dragging samsung to court then we might be waiting for a truely innovative product right now......... just saying

It's all pointing to the 21st September and both me and the wifey will be preordering one as soon as announced :).

Ordering something that you don't know the spec of?

i'll be ordering mine as soon as possible got the price locked in for my 4s, the ios6 beta has been pretty good so far so I'm interested to see what the 5 can do.

You can't pre order until they announce it, so when you pre order you know what you are getting. Happens every Apple iPhone launch.

Was more about folk saying they WILL be ordering when nothing is known.

For me, if a phone is coming I'm interested, but spec and price depending. Won't buy just because of the brand or its new, and certainly wouldn't queue up at midnight for one.

So what is going to be amazing, new and never done before? A 4" 16:9 screen?

I'll be ordering one as soon as hell freezes over.

Excellent, all the more for the rest of us who'll end up on a waiting list as per the past few models.

Nice! Thanks for your opinion and I'm glad you feel this way. Just get back to your Samsung ;)

Anyhoo, currently no-one really knows exactly what the spec is but based on past products (meaning generation jumps like iPhone 3G to iPhone 4) the new phone is likely to be another jump forward. When it's announced, I will read everything and decide then. Unless it is a complete rebadge - ie, nothing new, I will be preordering two!

HTC ;)

IPhone 5 with new rectangle with rounder corners style.

Not really interested, iOS 6 doesn't really offer much new and leaked information(if its to be believed) offers nothing interesting either.

It'll have a '5' on it instead of '4S' ;)

Given what IOS6 is supposed to do, it'll be catching up on features that everyone else has had for years

http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/ --> nothing even remotely new here, well I say that, it's new for AppleFans, old stuff for everyone else.

Expect lawsuits on how Apple totally invented the "red button to cancel incoming call" feature etc.

Yeah I will be getting one as soon as they are launched, I've been out of contract since January just waiting for the launch to sign a new one lol

I'm sure it will be a jump forward by Apple's standards. By everyone else's, they may finally catch up with this years tech.

Despite what a lot of people like to think, Apple are not innovators. They have pretty, shiny devices that use all old tech and give the tech stupid names (ie Facetime. I remember doing this years ago when 3 network launched!).

I know that a lot of people are swayed by iOS, but that is looking very dated now.

But, each to their own. I like (and own a) WP7, and will probably get a WP8. I have a works iPhone which I'm fed up with, having had 2 iPhones myself previously.

The only "revolutionary" thing that Apple might do with the 5 is the smaller dock port. Of course, they'll sell this as a good change but it's going to make a lot of people equipment redundant (even with adapters) as to make it smaller the only thing they could take out is the digital audio stream...

The biggest issue the 5 has over every other apple device that has gone before and this includes all flavours of iPod, iPad, iPhone 1,2,3,4,4S etc. is that they have decided to change the dock connector. What this means in practice is that every Stereo, iPod dock, Car interface, Car charger, USB cable etc. where the phone is physically attached to something is now incompatible with the new phone.

So the Skoda MDI iPhone / iPod cable will now be useless, along with many other devices and cables.

Changing the dock connector is a great way to force consumers to go out and have to buy again all those high profit margin cables and accessories meaning even more profit for Apple.

I have a standard iPhone 4 (not 4S) and I currently see no reason to upgrade, this phone does everything I want it to and need it to do without any problem.

Wasn't the connector thing supposed to being haromised across all OEMs so that everyone had the same chargers and data cables etc? IIRC it was decided that micro-USB was to be the standard.

iPhone 5 has a smaller version of the existing dock connector. Unlike most phones, which have adopted micro USB, the iPhone uses the dock connector for far more than just data and power which is all USB can do.

Such as? Just wreaks of vendor lock-in through proprietary standards if you ask me, just like Sony's MemoryStick nonsense. At least if it's electrically identical you should be able to get an adaptor (just like SD to MicroSD)

I'm on the fence. I've seen the new Nokia Lumia and I know they are very slick phones.

I currently have a HTC Sensation and I have to say while the Android experience has been nice, it just doesn't feel as "polished" as any iPhone ever did. My wife will be ordering the iPhone 5 as soon as she can.

I have a few options, either to claim her iPhone 4 as mine and flog my Sensation (her phone has a dodgy home button though - probably just needs a clean) - Both get iPhone 5's (automatically looking at £1K for two phones, and probably £3-400 back for the two current ones if we are lucky)

Might either go for a Lumia instead. Though to be honest, there's not a lot "wrong" with my current phone. Just get moments where the keyboard magically stops working and some other ****e - but it is rooted and I change the image now and again. Time for a re-flash I think.

'Fraid not, this is a common fault with them. Had to send back 4 to Vodafone from work with this issue. Have a google, it's worryingly common...

iphone dock connector also carries Analogue Audio, HD Video, Digital Audio and all the protocol data that the various docks use. You can get adapters to plug your iPhone or iPad into your 42" HD TV via HDMI, connect wired keyboards, and more.

This should do the job.
