Service at an Independent Garage affecting Skoda Warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians,

I have a new 2012 Superb and i have opted for the extended 5 year 100K warranty from Skoda prior to collecting the car.

What i want to know is do i have to get the car serviced at the main dealer and pay there extoriantae prices?

I have an old next door neighbour who has a garage, the sort where he needs no signs up as all of his work is WOM.

Could he not service the car and use genuine OEM/Skoda parts and the Skoda warranty still be honoured?

He is VAT Registered.

I appreciate the updating software on the car etc...but if it aint broke then why try and fix it?

What are your comments good people?

Yes you can use any Indy as long as the service scedule is followed and the correct spec parts are use.

out of interest what did the warranty cost you.sounds like a good deal if the price is right

In theory yes.

But let's face it, all companies try to wriggle out of warrantee claims at times.

If it's a "grey" area (DPF issues ?) and you need the dealer on your side or some good will from Skoda then FSH from Skoda is going to put you in a much, much better position.

Yes if you want to get independent engineers reports, and take Skoda to court and try to force them to honour a claim despite their position of "driver error, incorrect or inadequate servicing, etc" then you might win.

Think about the hassle.

If there was a software / mapping update to prevent the engine destroying itself or destroying the DPF, etc then your cheap independent would have known nothing about it, would not see the technical bulletins and Skoda could deny the claim. Some one will say ah but they would have to issue a recall - but often only as a last resort for safety related issues.

Extended warrantee is just another form of insurance. Why take the insurance and then give them an excuse to not pay out ?

Take the finance for a minimum amount get the "free" servicing pack and get the deposit contribution towards the car which more than pays for the interest. Then pay it off early ;-)

(not sure if this is offered for the Superb but it was when I bought my Octavia)

Thanks for your comments Guys.

The Skoda Warranty was about £630 for an extra 2 years or 100K and belongs to the car not the owner and is fully registered with Skodas system.

I think you also get the VAG support cover from the RAC. (VAG livery vehicles come out and fix your car)

You need to check the warranty carefully. Most car warranties supplied in uk are a mixture of manufacturer and dealer. Manufacturer for first two years, dealer for rest. The dealer section may not be enforceable if serviced outside of dealer network. Also check things like bodywork/paint warranty. These typically require an inspection at an approved dealer at set intervals.

So read wording carefully and follow any minimum requirements and you should be ok.

Cheers

Steve
