Is this a fine waiting to happen ?

How about strapping it onto your radiator grille? :)

But that's just as illegal as it hasn't got the correct size margins.

eh yes it has, was checked by police. (unless they have it wrong) It is the original std size plate with std letters with just the outer plastic around the letters cut down.

Why.............

Why.............

Did you think I was serious?

If you look at the link above, it says there should be a minimum 11mm margin top, bottom and sides, so it looks like the copper has got it wrong

They could well have it wrong, in my experience they are not consistent in the way that they check tyre tread depth. The plate should have a border of 11mm between the characters and the edge of the plate, standard plates rarely have more than this, so cutting them down will reduce the border.

With the number of Mis spaced number plate being displayed, containing more coloured bolts and letters/ numbers altered to make names I would have thought yours was fine. The Old bill don't seem to care, It's a farse

I would say that plates got several illegal points to it and I'm sure I've seen people get 3 points per problem on a plate on one of those cop shows. Or maybe they just decided to check the car with a fine tooth comb after that ?

Anyway, I see so many illegal plates that I guess the cops just don't give a ****. I saw one that said I O W S C (isle of wight sailing club) spaced exactly as i just wrote it. With incorrect font, incorrect sizing, no borders, no manufacturer mark, presumably no BS mark. I was dum struck they had it on their car and hadn't been given a telling off yet. The only thing they hadn't done was put a picture of a bloody boat on it!

Get a private plate....less letters/numbers!! Job done!!!

Seriously though, I will try and find a link to where I had mine made - mine is a 5 digit private number though, so you still might be stuck.......

Have a look at the different size plates for 'Imports', they are 330m wide with varying depths. I had one of these on my car since 2004 when I did my wide 'mouth mod' and never had issues... When it got to MOT time I just stuck the standard plate over it, drove off forecourt and took it off. Sorted for another 12 months!!
