What helmets

Featured Replies

Guys.... Could i just ask what helmets you use for track days ?

Any links eyc would be cool to give me ideas of costs

Cheers guys :)

Arai or Bell are good makes I have used.

I personally believe in spending a reasonable amount as what you are putting inside it is quite valuable.

How big is your head?

I have a Large sized Bell 7 that ccost about £500 I could let you have cheap.

Holy crazy coloured nissans batman :D

£500 helmets

Maybe i best stay on the sides watching lol

I think i have a 61cm bonse :D so xl's i think

I was nosing about due to passanger ride chances :)

Could you use an old motorcycle helmet?

I saw a few at a boot sale which could be good??

Go find a motorbike shop local and go try a few on, think i paid about 80 quid for mine as i couldn't justify spending much more on it due to the amount of use it will get, prob 3-4 times a year

Bell do a budget open face one for around 70 pounds, have a look on Demon Tweaks.

I just prefer something light and good in a crash.

For the odd passenger ride the budget version should be fine, this is similar to the ones MSV hire out for 10 pounds.

Ah, I was going to say! Taking your car on track!? :D

I use a simple open faced jobbie, cost me £50 several years ago and still fine now. I also suffer with a big bonce. Think mine is 62cm... but an XXL was fine.

I think there might be differences between bike and car and open tops so may be worth looking into before buying also some tracks only accept certain ones with markings just to let you know I will try and find the info and post it up but may be worth checking your track you hope to use

Generally for passenger laps anything will do

Both Mine and Mrs Pasty's hemets are motorcycle ones

Mine was never given back following a loan from my uncle and Mrs Pasty's was swapped for a TENS machine when the previous owner got pregnant!

After 3 "proper" trackdays and half a dozen Brisky sessions at Combe the most indepth check i've ever been subjected to was on Saturday when the marshal noticed that both me a Jason had managed to do our helmets up incorrectly and refastened them for us.

The issue with that was as the fastenings were below our chins neither of us could tell how he'd done it so are none the wiser about the correct method!! :D

Tell me about it!

I unloaded the car into Nick's S4, put the Briskoda banner up, went on track, came back for petrol, did another track session... came back for more petrol and then it was time to go and queue for over an hour for the Brisky session.

Day just flew past!

I got mine from demon tweeks off ebay altho called in on way home from a trip to wales but all he wanted to sell me was a 400 quid helmet so i walked out

Sparco Club at arround £70 or Bell mag 1 at arround £250 ish.

Don’t take a passenger ride in a particular Fiat Coupe without a helmet, full body armour, and anti-gravity pills

That fiat roll was baaaaaaaad :(

Was he hurt much ?

I use an old moto x helmet ;)

Never buy a second hand helmet! Dropped helmets may look perfect but internally they could be spent.....same applies to hired lids, also nothing worse than someone else sweat leaking down your face as you squeeze on your rented helmet on a hot day!!

A cheap helmet (£100.00) to BS/EN standards is good enough for a tin top.... try a few we all have different shaped heads that may suit a particular manufacture... I always use Shark or Shoei lived to tell the tale from a couple of bike crashes...

I'm looking for one too. I've been karting more with friends and since I will be on track more it's making more sense to get one of my own.

I will be buying this one

Valid point about not being cheap skates when you choose your helmet but than again one need kit appropriate for the application. In carting I would not blink to pay 1k for a helmet as this is really dangerous form of Motorsport and that is really the only for of protection a driver has...

Going in my vRS around the track...

I paid £80 for a road bike helmet (worth £120) so would happily spend more than that, less than £500 though. There's a Simpson Stig-like one for about £400 on Demon Tweeks. The karting I'm doing is indoors, 40mph at most. At first was a one off but last week I had to jump in to make up numbers and there's a few more days I'll be doing coming up to Christmas. Once I buy one provided I never need it for what it's designed for I should never have to buy another one

Martyn, try Club100.com. Very affordable and you get a real kart to drive in on Championship tracks. No offence but indoor karting is for corporate events really and rather pedestrian...

I know it is but that's fine for now. It's cheap fun that's all.

Agreed! The last corporate karting event I took part in was driving electric karts lol. The people gathered there all seemed a typical office dwelling bunch, polite, dry sense of humour, giving off rather docile vinbes. You should have seen them after the second change of drivers (team endurance race). The most innocent, short, rounded chap with a head sparsely garnished with greying remnants of hair (looked like a hobbit) turned into smoke breathing speed daemon. He even got black flagged and sent to the sin bin lol.

Yes, they are good fun but then again, compared to proper carts it is like playing with Matchbox models and actually driving a real car ;)

Helmets are way cheaper now anyway , my Bell star 1 (at the time THE best Motorcycle helmet ) in 78 was £121 and was only on £65 ponds before tax a week , by the best you can afford , they really do save your life, even on bikes( cycles), 4 years ago woman pulled out straight into me ,crushed her front wing with my knee, then over the top of her bonnet I landed on my head and the impact was so hard I detached the retina from my eye, imagine that with a cheapo or no helmet.
