4x4 1.8T Fuel Pump senders

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm having problems with the fuel gauge on my Mk1 Octavia 1.8T 4x4.

The gauge only seems to work on the top half. ie when the tank is empty, (it ran dry) it is showing half tank and still shows 180mile range.

I did purchase 1J0 919 051 H as I thought it was only different by one letter to the sender in fuel tank on drivers side.

I then realised when I went to remove the sender from the tank, 1J0 919 051 G, that it had extra pipes and wires. This led me to discover that my octy, being the 4x4, has two senders and a different fuel tank system.

I looked under seat on passenger side and found another sender. When I turned on ignition this passenger side sender started pumping and I was able to move the float and cause the gauge to read from half to full.

Does this mean that it is the driver side sender that operates the bottom half of gauge? I couldn't get my hand in tank or release the sender enough to test float due to the extra fitments.

I'm currently just using the half gauge and treating it as if it was full. When I get down near the half mark I fill the tank and know that I can get approx 360miles.

Please can someone explain in what order the twin senders work and which one do I need to replace?

Many thanks

Drivers side 1J0 919 051 G and

Passenger side 1J0 919 673 L

(They are connected together between the two reservoirs by electrical connection and two pipes.

I ordered 1J0 919 051 H which is not compatible so I'll sell that one on)

One is the fuel pump and level sender(like simple versions),other is an extra pump wich pumps fuel from one tank to another to keep equal levels.

You have to deal with the one with 2 hoses ,that is the one with the sender and pump to the engine.

Thanks.

So to double check.

The drivers side sender, with a 4pin plug and two pipes on the top, controls the gauge and also pumps fuel to the engine? 1J0 919 051 G.

that's the one.

the other one must have one pipe

I will double check in the morning.

Just was getting myself confused because the float on passenger sender also moved gauge.

Cheers
