One or two slight electrical gremlins

Featured Replies

Hey guys, 3 weeks into ownership I'm getting to know the car better. Already learnt that it goes like stink and it's going in next week to have it's steering sorted out, also started running it on Ron 98 (BP Ultimate / Shell V Power) as of today, and next oil will be Castrol Edge 5 30 fully synthetic, so hopefully that'll cure the engine light and oil consumption.

With regards to the electrics, first one I've noticed is that when I put down the driver's side electric window part way, I can hear a clicking sound from the door and it's quite prominent, it also happens when putting it up part way, I also only have one touch, not press once and it goes however far, this happens when controlling the passenger window from my side too. Back windows are fine though! any ideas?

Secondly, sometimes I've realised that it won't open on the remote, until I put the key in the lock, turn it to the left to lock it, then it'll let me do it.

Most irritatingly though, when I push the rear wiper stalk back and then off again to cancel it, sometimes it won't stop for a little bit, and also today it just randomly came on when driving (front wipers were off!)

Any ideas what these could be?

cheers :)

the clicking noise could possibly be the window regulators, on the fabias (and most VAG group cars of the time) there are plastic clips that hold the glass window to a wire loop, this loop runs in a figure 8 pattern to hold the window in its position. These plastic clips/mounts however over time become brittle and can break, I know in my last fabia just before the drivers side broke it used to creak/click quite often. If they do break its £80 per regulator or get a garage to do it, bearing in mind Skoda quoted me £200 for doing one side.

I replaced my one myself, took about 30 min to an hour to complete it

Regarding the key issue, the battery in the remote could be getting low.

Ah cheers for that, that's what I wondered, I'll get them to look at that when it's in having it's steering sensor sorted, and if it needs doing I'll get in touch with AutoProtect (£500 of cover :D )

As for the key, that makes sense, the range isn't all too great if I'm honest. I'll get onto that one when I get myself a new shell for it.
