JOM coilovers vs Eibach springs

Featured Replies

Had a quick look on here and see the above is a popular choice.

Are the JOM really any good for £200, i mean that is cheap for coilovers! are they reliable and robust or are they cheap ****?

Same for springs are they any good?

I guess both improve handling to an extent, the coilovers more so?

I'll be fitting a rear ARB too, can anyone recommend a resonably priced make?

I take it coilovers/springs and RARB will improve handling a lot?

Any experiences?

Thanks

i have joms on my octy and they are more than adequate, even for my heavy front end. Firm even after 6k miles, handling is extremely good.

I did lowering springs but they werent low enough and by comparison they were very crashy (cheap springs though) the coilovers are more versatile, and provide a more secure ride in my opinion.

Ive hit some sharp bumps with car lowered 60mm from stock and they didnt bottom out and thud they just rectified the issue and regained normal stance very quickly. This does make em quite hard but it pays you back in other ways.

passengers by and large dont really say anything about the ride, which is good as they know nothing about cars, and would only point out if it was bad.

Overall whilst they are cheap, the ride doesnt reflect a £200 purchase - ok not as good as weitecs, but better than the price tag they have. I honestly feel you wont regret it, at the top they are only 25mm drop according to my measurements, and still remain firm and great handling. Down to a 60mm drop and ride is firmer but still manageable and pretty comfy, 70mm and the bounciness creeps in a little and that makes smooth road handling astonishing, but a bumpy corner can upset it.

Set them to the bottom and its more or less unuseable, maybe ok for a track though. The rears need to be adjusted lower than the front (thread count wise) or it will be hot rodding.

Hope this helps your decision, most who have these are very happy with them

thanks mate appreciate it

no probs 2 year warranty helps too

Hello,

We are expecting a load of the Fabia/Ibiza kits coming in from JOM soon but as above really for the customers that have been using them seem to be quite happy, I do have the odd report that they are pretty tough ride but other than that pretty decent!

The Eibach springs will be a better ride, even more so if you are matching them with a good damper like Bilstein or Koni etc.

We offer the JOM Blueline for £160.00 inc VAT

Hope this helps!

£ 160 :o feck me!!

I have the JOMs in and they're great for the money, sure there is better for the money, but they're comfortable and the quality is fine!

I cant speak from experience about the Eibachs in the Fabia, but I have had them in my Clio 182 and my old 1.8 2002 Focus [30mm kit and a 50mm kit]

All the eibach stuff is superb and will be a much better all rounder.

If you want low, go JOMs if you want performance, go Eibachs or proper coilovers.

I'm after handling improvement so your saying eibach springs are better than JOM coilovers?!?!

Thanks

i think he is saying that, however i must disagree. More comfort yes, but better handling? I cant see how the lack of bodyroll on the joms can make the softer springs better for handling.

When dropped to just the right height, the joms hold the car flat and steady, more travel in springs means more roll.

I agree with you mate, lower centre of gravity and more compliance with coilovers, as with shock and lower springs they are not matched so to speak in terms of rebound/refresh etc.

That's right and if you buy eibachs and get the closely rated shocks, 200 quid will be blown out of the water. At least coilovers are built matched rates, and have the warranty. For 200 there is no better option imo

Apologies if i wasn't clear.

The JOMs allow good handling also. Though I think a matched set of Eibach Shocks and Springs would be better.

However that'll be about the £400 mark at least.

The Fabia's handle and turn in very well standard IMO and my JOB haven't really improved it all that much :)

I'd agree, especially at the £160 quoted above! :)

The Eiback Pro spring wont give a very pleasant handling experience, especially if used on OE dampers.

They are too soft, over-lower and I don't like their progression. The ride will be crashy as most of the damper travel will have been lost and the car will sitting on the bumpstops (this situation can be reduced by trimming the bumpstop, but the damper will still be compromised as it's too far into its travel causing premature wear and ramping up). The crashing is very painful as it can be felt through the car very hard, especially mid corner on the outside weighted front wheel.

Other thing is bounce. Quite pogo sticky at times, especially at higher speed. IMO a terrible spring, but that's me, and I'm fussy

Im pretty interested in these at that price!!

Im a novice on the subject. But if i was to get these coilovers would that be all i need? I see all sorts of things about droplinks etc.

Cheers,

Carl

P.S. sorry for the thread Hijack :)

unless your going really low you wont need anything else, but if your going really low you will need short drop links

Just to be sure I purchased:

JOM Coilovers

New OEM top mounts

New Ibiza FR Rear bump stops

2004 Mondeo TDCI Droplinks.

That's good advice, although I used old bearings and mounts and old rear bump stops too. If you ain't going too low I think stock stops would bbe ok as they prob won't bottom out anyway

I have 2 disagree with this ^^^

Iv had eibach pro springs + JOM coilies + cheaper springs..

The eibachs were used on my fabia with polo gti shocks (same as fabia vrs shocks) + although noticably lower than standard with better handling + less body roll etc.. the ride quality was almost as good as standard + not "crashy" at all. No premature wear of the shocks eithee after 2 years + alot of miliage..

Compared to the cheapee springs + JOM coilovers iv ran in the past tge were 100x better..

The JOMs are a cheap way to run low but they were the main reason i wouldnt run coilovers on a daily again..

They are crashy.. + they knock and bounce.. + will give u a back ache over a long journey.. what iv found with JOM coilovers is on small hatches like the fabia which alrwady has a stiff chassis.. they are brutal.. but when fitted to softer chassis like mk4 golfs.. a4s etc they are ok

Ok i've just bought JOM coilovers and a white line rear ARB. I think its best to get the other bits and pieces so...I'll top mounts and drop links believe mondeo ones are suitable.

Is that all i need?

Can someone kindly point me to ebay links for the parts , top mounts and drop links and how many i need of each part?

Do the JOMs come pre assembled?

Thanks

Thanks mate, any one.give me the links please?

Honestly guys the JOM coilovers will give you a handling increase over a car that has done 100K miles on stock suspension but really I would only go JOM for the look as you can go pretty low on them. Other wise if you wanting to get a great handling increase then you will be looking at spending a bit more.

As metioned with suspension it is really you get what you pay for!

I would recommend chaning the top mounts and bearings at the same time as the suspension but if you are going really low the drop links may be needed.

One thing to look at on those is the front wishbone rear bushes too! They are really common for failing!

Ibiza Cupra Bushes

Powerflex Bushes

Hope this helps!

Another great handling mod is the Whiteline Rear ARB

If you guys like give me a call or PM me and I will see if I can sort out a bit of a handling package deal :D

Bump re mounts drop links

Overall whilst they are cheap, the ride doesnt reflect a £200 purchase - ok not as good as weitecs, but better than the price tag they have.

I thought Weitec's were very harsh and crashy...

Ive just put the Eibach Pro-Kit on my vrs, along with a whiteline arb on the stiffest setting, a upper rear strut brace and a upper front strut brace, i have new console bushes aswell and the ride is fine, dont get me wrong you can tell the cars lowered, its stiffer, handles brilliant, and it certainly is not crashy and bouncy, takes the bumps very well, even on really crappy roads and frankly im glad i didnt buy coilovers, i didnt want to go very low just wanted the arch gap shortened, and didnt want to lose the ride comfort.
