All apple in house now running ios6 and no issues pretty quick 30 minutes, however apple need to sort maps they are chronic :( no drop down street view , there is an app but not so good as the genuine google app :(

What happens if you save the iOSMaps.ipa file from a pre iOS 6 release and just drop it into iTunes to sync with your device? Do you still get Google Maps?

I know shifting .ipa files (the apps on your iOS device) has let me restore previous versions of things developers have over tweaked (e.g. Twitter V5) in the past.

That would be the ideal solution I reckon.

Somebody clever tell us how to do it.... Please.

I downloaded iOS 6 last night and used maps last night and this morning.

Turn by turn navigation is great. To be useful at night though it needs a night colour scheme, as the standard one even on its dimmest setting is too bright on the 4S.

The maps app needs an Internet connection, so don't throw away the Tom Tom app yet.

Remember Apple don't have that many people working on R&D compared to Google on their maps. It is not surprising that it isn't yet as good. It will get better as it is being constantly updated, even if they don't correct places up Norf like Duncastet. I expect there will be places darn sarf which are also wrong as well.

It's not bad for their first attempt, but as mentioned above, could (and will) do better.

Am I the only one to still be able to get Google maps to work on my iPhone4 with iOS 6 then?

(Just realised my google maps 'app' is run through the Safari browser, this may be the difference?)

Apple maps suck!! The satellite view is useless now. At least the ones google had for round me gave actuall views from a few years ago, the apple version just has a countryside blur.

Also just found out that the previous requirement to input password to download or buy apps has been disabled, now struggling to find how reinstate it before my kids start buying things!

The HTML5 maps.google.com still works through Safari. But it's painfully slow compared to the native app and has no StreetView option. Still more useful than Apple Maps at the moment though.

It's only free apps and updates that no longer require a password. Any paid apps should still ask.

Did the update this morning and it removed YouTube off my app screen. Had to download the free app but now i can't watch videos posted on here as it says i need Flash Player or Quicktime Player and my device isn't compatible. Wish i hadn't bothered with it as more hassle than before.

Anjther good reason not to update my iPad

Woke up yesterday to a notification on me 4S saying iOS6 is ready for you to download and install.

Clicked OK and a couple of legal agreements then the phone rebooted and the *ahem* magic that is iOS 6 was on it like a car bonnet.

Took about 10 minutes. Like it had pre DL'd or summat. Very strange. Anyone else experience this?

Yes, I believe it was pre downloaded. A number of users on other forums have reported a drop in available space prior to the install.

iPads have never been able to play flash videos anyway as they're not compatible.

We're you able to play them before?

There is apparently an app that will do it but it's a bit of a fiddle so I've been told so I haven't bothered

I downloaded it too, seems a bit of an improvement, definently feels faster. Managed to have a beta copy on my 4s for a while but they clamped down so went back to iOS 5 for a bit.

Nothing revolutionary though, still feels almost the same product since iOS4 came about.

I was always able to play YouTube videos posted on forums but now it's saying i need Flash. Whether the fact the original YouTube app has gone has played a part in it, i don't know.

I have always been able to play some YouTube vids but when flash vids are posted all I get is a grey box with a crossed out play symbol inside it.

Not really a problem for me, as I said above.

If I really want to watch a particular vid I just turn the laptop on and watch it on that instead :)

That would be the ideal solution I reckon.

OK, you need to look in your iTunes folder, Mobile Applications folder. This is where the OS stores all your apps (if you use iTunes to sync your devices and not iCloud). Every time you download and install an update for an app the old version will be put in the trash (so you can rescue it and revert to it). If you regularly empty your trash you will remove the old versions of the apps, if you have already updated to iOS 6 then you may not be able to retrieve the old Google maps app.

Create yourself a folder for old versions of apps and just put the .ipa file of the apps you want into it (the 1's you pulled from the trash or mobile applications folder). To restore an old version you must delete the new version from your device and also from iTunes. Then drag the saved version into iTunes and sync you device, the old version will now be installed. Make sure you have all your update settings on manual and not auto or the apps will be updated in the background.

If you are running Time Machine you may also be able to pull old versions of .ipa files from the Mobile Applications folder from the past.

But, as the google maps app is part of the OS, I have never seen it there....

We'll see. I'm going to have a dig around tomorrow

So far iOS 6 appears to have fixed the Bluetooth issue I had with the 4S. So far, and this isn't based own many calls, it would appear to be routing the calls to the car's Bluetooth.

Let's see what the iPhone 5 will be like as well with the GSM 11 in the Yeti.....
