Unlocking issues

Featured Replies

Brand new octavia VRS diesel. I press the unlock button once, it doesn't open all the doors. Is this normal? only after I press it 3 times does it open all of them (this includes the boot). Starting to get annoying, never seemed to have this problem with my 2007 model.

I know about the deadlock and having to press the button in the centre of the car to unlock all the doors on exit (or double open the handle) but when it comes to opening the car it's becoming frustrating. Any idea's?

It's the antihijack feature.

Only the driver's door opens on the first click.- so that no one else can get in the car if you are on your own. It can be turned off if you have Maxidot or by the dealer.or by someone with VCDS.

You should only have to press it twice, although if the second press is too quickly after the first it doesn't register, which may be why you have to press the button three times.

As above, if you have maxidot you can change this so that all doors open on the first press of the remote...

I feel your pain, when I want to unlock all the doors I press the unlock too quickly and end up only opening one door, still it's not a problem Its just the wife that gets wet when its raining and I don't, so I will live with it.:rofl:

under the settings - convenience menu, u can set how the doors unlock/lock.

likewise, u can set it to auto open. this will happen as soon as the key is taken out of the ignition, or the driver's door is opened.

auto lock will lock all doors once u exceed 15km/h.

I think it's a great idea that it only opens the driver door. I've got mine set so they lock automatically too. It's a small price to pay for security. I'd rather have to press the unlock button twice and pull the door handle twice than get car jacked.

First thing I disabled on mine, as I usually either have the Mrs with me or something to put into the boot, 90% of the time I was having to double unlock using the remote. As I have the auto-lock enabled I don't see it as a great security risk.

PITA but I'm not paying to get it coded out. SWMBO's BMW has the same setup.

Not being funny but if someone's gonna carjack you when your opening your door, it wouldn't matter whether it just opens the driver or all 4, he/she's going to get in your car regardless, by assaulting you.... But I'm all for safety and I take your point, as I do everyone's, I need to find this convenience menu then because in settings on my touchscreen I can't see it anywhere............ I would rather all doors were unlocked personally, rather than constantly pressing the key fob until they all open. Personal preference :-)

How do you get to this menu because I can't find it on the touchscreen?

The menu in in Maxidot, not on the touchscreen. If you don't have maxidot you'll need to find someone local with VCDS or ask your dealer...

You have maxidot if the display between the dials shows you a picture of which doors are open rather than just a light on the dash warning you

But it is not unheard of for lowlifes to crouch behind the car on the passenger side and when they hear the car unlock open the passenger door... If that door doesn't unlock they have to get round the car sharpish... I had mine on the double press for unlock, and it was the first change I made on the Leon too... Two presses does not bother me at all

Everyone has their own preferences though...

I have the same issue as the OP, on my previosu VRS two clicks on teh remote all doors unlocked, easy, one click, just drivers door, new VRS, two clicks (not too quickly) and only the drivers door opens, sometimes have to press the unlock 4/5 times, and then the boot doesnt always unlock, so have had to change it in maxidot to unlock all on one click, not a major issue but it shouldnt be like that! Just frustrating!

+1 :)

I suspect the method of choice these days is to just jump you from behind once you've opened the car.....they'll get the keys and an empty drivers seat. (The two important things in nicking a car........well, unless it's a BMW ;) ) The last thing your jacker *really* needs is to be trying to get you back out of the drivers seat and then climb across.

......unless you're the target, not the car.

Maybe, but they could be crouching there for a long time though. ;) Most lowlifes have better things to do than camp behind people's cars waiting for them to come back.

I don't think this feature was really introduced to prevent full-on carjacking as such, despite the name. When central locking first become commonplace in the late 80's there were an increasing number of cases of people having items grabbed from the back seat, passenger seat or boot by opportunist thieves whilst the driver was sat in the car waiting in a traffic queue, at lights etc. This had been made easier by the fact that, due to central locking, drivers increasingly drove around with all of the doors and boot unlocked.

The anti-hijack feature was just intended to replicate what people usually did before the days of central locking, ie unlock just the drivers door to get in, leaving the other doors and boot locked.

Yup, this was my thinking. I guess it happens from what other's have said, but i've never heard of anyone I know actually being carjacked at all let alone this way.

Got mine on single click all doors unlock, but it's probably paranoia from having to cut people out of cars.

I don't know about the Octavia but a lot of central locking systems are designed to unlock all of the doors automatically on impact, eg when any of the airbags are triggered. I suppose there's always a risk it won't work though.

I just used a Carista OBD2 dongle with Carista software to switch off double click unlocking on a 2006 Skoda Octavia and it took less than 2 minutes. It is a free option under Customisation. The Skoda dealer said they only did it for free for newer models, which you can access through the dashboard menu and the charge for older models would be 1 hour’s labour at over £70.

Originally the car did have central locking but not remote locking. After fitting one of the remote locking kits found on eBay, I discovered that double clicking did not work, only single clicking to open the driver's door. I did not know if de-activating double-clicking would solve the problem for all doors, but it does.
