Pulling to the left after tracking?

Featured Replies

Just been to pick up a fabia vrs mk1 from the dealership, however the car is pulling to the left?

they put it on the ramps and tracked the car up, but it still pulled to the left.

So then the chap put it on the ramps agian and adjusted the wheel and went for another drive.. he did this about 3 times and then said it was fixed.

So i go to set off home again and the car was still pulling to the left, so i go back to the garage and they had all gone home!!!!

I dont understand why he had to keep adjusting the car 3 or 4 times.

I thought you put the steering wheel straight and then just put the front 2 wheels straight simple as that.

why did he keep having to adjust the wheel and then take it for a drive several times... was he trying to point one of the wheelss inwards till it stoped pulling left? in which case that wouldnt be a proper fix?

it wasnt the camber of the road either as I checked it on several different roads etc.

any comments apriciated as im off back tomorrow.

Was it when accelerating? My vrs pulls left under acceleration, i believe it's just torque steer?

doing it when not accellerating, defo not tork steer.

Mine always has, only a bit though not by much.

dont understand why he kept having to adjust and then testdrive again, surley if his equipment is saying the wheels are straight why would he keep adjusting it?

my octy does this, even tracking set at '0' its still does it, but tyres wearin g evenly so just forget about it

Could be alsorts of things I guess, just found it odd he kept adjusting the wheel and driving it, surley if it says the wheels are straight then its something else?

some cars just do that. weight, tyre pressures, road surfaces, camber, circumference of wheels. Many variables

Most VAG car's as standard pull to the left I seem to recall, something to do with moving you away from oncoming traffic or something along those line's?Believe it's the back end of the car which causes the issue?IIRC

^^^ interesting, sounds like a good idea for the dozing driver

Any car that pulls to the left in my book, there are issues!!!. appriciate the comments though,

Mine also pulls slightly to the left after tracking to do the same as the dealer on yours. Don't think it being lowered helps either.

Most roads are cambered towards the nearside too.

As suggested, have you checked the pressures?

mine does exactly the same and to go straight my stearing wheel has to be turned ever so slightly.

Tyre pressue is fine and checked very often for me. Although i havent had the tracking adjusted yet. I guess get it tracked peroperly then if it does it still just accept it?

I've put it down to road camber. Roads would all flood completely if they were absolutely 100% flat - Rainwater needs to try and drain off somewhere. :)

On a quiet road, try driving on the wrong side and see if it still pulls left. :)

Already tried that haha the car definitely likes to turn left. P.S sorry to thread hijack :)

I feel sorry for you, I've had the same issues with my Skoda Fabia too. Skoda Dealership replaced the suspension bushes (the x-cross ones that commonly fail) and didn't do the tracking properly even after my many complaints..

I took my car to quik fit and had them do the tracking maybe 8times, each time the car still pulled to the left. I gave up in the end. It was just a waste of time.

That chewed through that set of tyres pretty quickly, so I got a brand new set of tyres fitted and balanced (goodyears), and had a proper 4wheel VAG beissberth alignment done at APS brackley (these guys do all the work on my mk4 R32), paid top dollar for it done there.

Car's been great for about 7000 miles, since I've had it done, and it's just started to pull every so slightly again to the left. I check the tyre pressures religously and set them spot on. I never drive up or down kerbs, and never kerb the tyres (let alone the wheels!) but yet it's started to pull again to the left.

I put it down to the Skoda mechanicals....

My R32 has now got 104,000 miles on it (owned it from new), and with the exception of the coilovers and antiroll bars, the rest of the suspension is almost 10years old (ie all the bushes!!!). APS did the alignment on that car years and years ago, and that car is absolutely rock solid, drives true and never ever pulls to any side no matter what road surface it's on.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is possible to have a perfectly tracked car (if my 100,000mile R32 is anything to go by)

but it seems like a friggin mission impossible to have a straight Fabia...

Fabias are just natrually bent it would seem

I have problems with mine also. It's always pulled to the left under acceleration, but putting that aside and looking at simply pottering along...

IIRC it wasn't that bad when I bought it.

After coilovers and bushes were changed and tracking was done, it started pulling badly to the left.

I had the tracking re-done with no resolution.

The tyres were near were worn, so in the mean time of getting then replaced I switched the fronts left with right, and that sorted the issue out. Fabia was 100% running straight (apart from torque steer).

Then when I had 4 new tyres on the problem came back, and its been like that for months. Taking it to a new (and hopefully more reputable company) to see what they think. It's a pain in the arse as you constantly have to hold pressure on the wheel easing it to the right to even it out.

This is correct... but only a slight pull to the left. U shouldnt be able to feel it unless u let go if the steering completely.

The problem with fabias is u cannot adjust the camber. Even if the tracking is correct. If the camber is out it may still pull to either side.

If i were u i would take it back + take the service manager out in the car to demonstrate. If there is a problem then he will bring it back in the workshop and have the tracking done again free of charge.

People slag main "stealers" off but u can be pretty certain if u kik up a fuss u will get it sorted for free ;)

Glad it's not just mine again! As said I raised my coilovers for it to be tracked, driving home it pulled very slightly, lowered it back down and pulled enough to have to hold the steering wheel. Now

I can't be bothered to raise it back up again to sort it out :(
