Vrs vs 2 Civic Type R's

Featured Replies

While on the subject of vRS v CTR performance and Fabia (obviously!) owning Civic I'd like to ask two questions.

1. To me Fabia's stock torque curve Looks artificially flat for a big chunk of its range. Looks like it is being limited by the ECU. People in the know, is that the case?

Thats how VAG map all their petrol cars. They did it in the TFSI as well. I guess its all pulled back to minimise emissions etc etc, and also why there are such big gains in the midrange from a remap

2. Can somebody post dyno sheets for those two CTRs which figured at the beginning of the thread?

Cheers!

Why is it flawed?

misfires and oil burning issues. Its not got a patch on a VTEC unit for reliability.

Hmm, I think that torque curve in the midrange could do with some tweaking :D

Good GOD......sorry I started this thread lol some damage being done. All I was saying is the car I drove against the two civics was quicker of the line and over a short distance, which many be purely down to drivers, conditions etc....i wasn't saying the Vrs was better or worse than the civics. Think some people need to mellow and take this for what it is.....a discussion lol :)

ajs_vRS obviously wasn't aware that Kie is a well known member here, hopefully everyone can place nice now.

not to take sides though.... but I would vote to have ajs_vrs removed for being confrontational and ignorant.

blessed be the peace maker ;-)

I didn’t mean that I would stop commenting all together i ment i am refusing to continue the pointless argument... and despite ajs_vrs comment about my "pathetic life" I think voting to have him removed is a little harsh lol.

Is that currently that 1.4TSi twin charged four pot won multiple Engine of The Year awards? Not bad for a "flawed unit" lol

Very true... although it gets a bit of stick usually aimed around the rough tick over that seems to worsen with a colder air temp but other than that this engine pared with the DSG outperforms engines twice its capacity whilst seeing mpg figures of 45mpg (sometimes more) and that’s fact not like the 1.4 twinair fiat claims sees figures of 55mpg+ and i can confirm 36mpg was the highest I managed to get out of it when testing this myth lol

You called? :giggle:

Always in the Fabia section .....

The mk1 provoked lively debates, now the mk2 does as well.

I'm waiting for the first "My vrs can drink more oil than a RX8" thread.

0 to 5 litres in 2500miles, forced induction pwns normal asthmapiration

One car is a shopping car for old people with a reasonably quick engine shoved in the front. The other is exactly the same.

Haha so true!

I used to love embarrassing CTR drivers when I had the focus ST. They often used to try it on, never seemed to learn lol.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been shut down yet, it doesn't really fit in with the corduroy trousers and blue-rinse + zimmer frame image of briskoda ;-)

This thread has everything

- People slagging off people's cars. some without proper facts and purely based on blind loyalty *check*

- Grammar Nazi's *check*

- 0-60 and top speed willy waving bollards *check*

- trolls *check*

Stock vs stock both cars driven to 8 tenths are similar on the road and it's only flat out the Civic would be quicker. I test drove one before buying a vRS and I hated it. What a disappointing car. Back breaking ride and absolutely no go unless you kicked it's head in everywhere. While fun this will get tiresome.

The vRS has plenty of plus points and as Sy knows plenty of potential. For less than £500 you'll have more than 200bhp and add a little more a car that handles even better. Personally I like how the vRS handles, it's predictable and there is a technique to getting the most out of it and for everyday driving it's comfortable and easy to live with. It will never be a touring car and I wouldn't want it to be. It could be a bit lower but stock it will always be a compromise.

Don't think however even though this is my second Skoda and third in the family that I'm loyal to the brand. I've driven several cars lately that really are eye opening and there's a very good chance my next car won't be Skoda. I buy a car for a point in time that it ticks as many boxes and possible and the Fabia vRS Estate does that for now.

One thing I will say is I'm amazed at how bitter some people have gone on this forum lately.

As I said above, sooo true :-)

My Mrs refused to drive the ST but can't get the keys for the vRS off her lol

Ha haha, Humble Pie is my specialty! Hopefully I should be able to rub your nose in it instead eating myself !

Hopefully yes but don't say you'll eat your hat tho, gag gag choke, I hope you don't have any issues I really do, drive it like its stolen from day 1

Me too buddy! Have a cunning plan I described in the "oil thread" so should be OK:) - it does involve booting it as soon as I turn the ignition.

@Martyn

You hit the nail on the head there, this exactly why I went for the Fabia vRS!

Perfect daily driver with more leg room in the back than my 5-series with fabulous DSG box making M25 bearable with enough grunt to have some fun as is stock. Add to that low road tax and extremely low insurance ( last quote I got was £205 with all bells and whistles) and as vRSy can testify some serious potential for more power. Just S1 gives enough to watch almost everything on the roads disappears in your rear view mirror. Not to mention £15k price tag for a car with heated seats, Bluetooth, cruise control, iPod connectivity controlled from the stealing wheel and big boot ! It is not the prettiest car around but I like it in black with black alloys :) Perfect for me!

What was this all about again??

Was it.....
