Pickup the Fabia later - can't wait!

Featured Replies

Well after a few weeks of car hell, I will finaly get to drive my Fabia vRS later.

On Saturday 22nd September, I collected my car from the local garage after having a new Turbo fitted, then the following Tuesday I was involved in a 3 car pile-up (me being in the middle man). I was absolutely gutted after only having the car back on the road for a few days

The repairs carried out were a new rear bumper, work on both rear quarter panels & tailgate, and a repair kit on the front bumper. The cost comes to over £2k, so I was lucky it wasn't written off.

Anyway, today I finally get to collect it and get back to some normality. The courtesy car was a Vauxhall Insignia, which was a guzzler, even though it was a diesel! Makes you appreciate the Fabia.

Just out of interest, has anyone got any recommendations on the turbo front with regards to looking after it etc? Should you cool it down after a journey and if so, for how long?

Cheers

Sorry to hear about your accident :( hope its only body work thats been broken and not people.

From what i've read if you take it easy a minute or two before reaching destination that should be enough to cool the turbo down and keep it happy.

Things like EGR delete/bypass would also help too.

Yeah was only body work, so can cope with that!

Thanks for the advice. I'll be gentle towards the end of journey then. Where's the best place to get an EGR delete/bypass carried out?

Cheers

What does this egr delete/bypass do?

EGR delete/bypass stops the exhaust gasses (black soot/gunk) going back into the intake of the turbo, eventually it will coke your fins and/or surroundings and will make a turbo pop. If you want to do it have a look at the elephant hose mod in the guides section and subsequent threads (oil catch can mod etc).

The plus side of the egr (keep it original) is cooler temps and lower emissions, slightly more linear pickup some say.

If you want to do some more reading have a search for some 'pikey mods' which are little mods that can be done for free which helps with the car (elephant hose mod is mikey mod no2 i think). :)

Cheers guys for these recommendations. They definitely sound worth while doing! Hopefully I'll have some time spare this weekend to sort it.

Thanks again.

I only have had my vRS for like a week and a half and its epically good! Got 72.8mpg (on the trip) on the way home from Santa Pod on Sunday.

Dropped the oil and new filter on Monday and had my mechanic (good lad!) look over the entire car to see if anything needed replacing or anything and he was very happy with the car! Great!

I love my vRS and will keep it for god knows how long :D

That's great news, glad you like the Fabia.

My Dad gets between 70 & 72mpg out of his Fabia vRS on a long run too, so I'm wondering where I'm going wrong! I do drive lightly on the gas and have had a recent oil and filter change, so god knows how my Dad gets better mpg than me!! I'm still getting low 50's, so it's still not bad!

Anyway glad all is good

Speed? Sounds silly but I did a little test this weekend going to Scarborough and back (around 80 miles one way)

On the way I averaged give or take 60mph point to point (some points going faster and some points obv slower!)

Hit 60.6mpg (on the trip)

On the way back I averaged give or take 70mph point to point (some points going fas.. err yeah so anyway...)

Hit 46.oddmpg.

Big difference 10mph can make!

I went down and back to Leicester at the weekend and I was roughly avg around the 75mph ish ;) and still managed to get 60.4mpg on the trip computer lol It's roughly around a 300mile round trip

Holy smoke, that's good Southy! Wish mine did that!!

I was well impressed but do think its slightly over reading. I have had it upto 70 mpg on the dash before sticking around 70mph or slightly less over similar kinda distance

Wow - that is very good!

try 40 or 50 mph in fifth over 5-6 mile drive and i got 90+mpg, best is 92.1mpg. i managed 68mpg @ 70mph from minehead (m5) to bristol then over the bridge back to wales. economy and performance in one. happy vrs owner.

Just discovered why I'm not getting good mpg! The lower intercooler pipe is split, so having a new one fitted this weekend. Hopefully the mpg will improve, the black smoke will calm down and that horrible hissing noise will go!!
