Why should I change?

Featured Replies

I am in the position early next year to change the Octy for something a bit more upmarket...

You cant take it with you and dont want to leave my brats with all my hard earned!

Got £10k plus the trade in on the 1.8 TSI, prob £14 grand tops

The list includes the awesome BMW 330i petrol, Audi A5 2.0 TSI both superb cars.

However I see no reason to change

Despite a few little niggles the car cannot be faulted!

Contrary to what everyone says the performance and economy is unmatched IMHO

Overtake with ease, a sweet spot of power, any extra is surely wasted on any "Normal" driver?

Easy to maintain, cheap insurance, comfy interior, large boot

41 MPG over the last 10K , 500mls of oil used and 2 bulbs!

Looks like im Staying Skoda, Unless I can get an 10 reg Audi A8 For 14 grand lol!

I'm just about to make the move the opposite way - after an Audi A6 & my current BMW 120i I'm now waiting the arrival of an Octavia vRS. While the Audi & BMW feel well put together I have to admit that I'm not particularly impressed with their overall reliability - I'm just glad that both were covered under warranty as they have both had their fair share of "niggles".

The interior of the Skoda is not quite as "posh" as either of the two German brands, but it is still a whole lot better than many other manufacturers (many of the controls are the same as Audi but with different back lighting) out there and overall the car can still hold its own regarding looks - I stopped thinking about Skoda as a budget brand not long after they introduced the Octavia and had a drive in some (we have a fleet of Octavia's for work and they have an extremely hard life).

If you are happy with the car I can see no reason for swapping just to confirm to someone elses idea of a premium brand vehicle.

Friend at work has an Audi A5 and has nothing but problems with it. Lacquer peeling off of alloys, Coolant leaks, blown turbos, rattling suspension, and now the car doesnt lock/unlock when you press the button

Lovely to look at though

The A5 Sportback is a mean looking car with RS6 alloys. I'll be trading up to one purely for its looks in a year or so. Once they come down in price.

Currently very happy with my VRS estate, I don't often pass a different car I'd be more happy sitting in :)

BMW straight six lovlieness would be nice. Have only ever owned diesel beemers but would love a a N/A 6cyl BMW petrol. The beemer would be my choice if i was allowed, which im not. The downside is that the beemer is a lot smaller inside, escpecially the boot and there is nowhere to rest your right foot when cruising on the motorway. If going the beemer route id get an auto only as i hated my 330d manual gearbox, was horrid.

Mate has a diesel A5. Lovely to look at but the s-line suspension is stupidly harsh, problem is only the s-line audis look good, se's look pants.

What else is on your short list?

Well i shouldnt have but test drove a 2010 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro today

Im smitten... one of the most amazing cars i have ever been in

However its a little out of budget this year so I might wait a bit

But some good posts ... does spending more get a better car, it seems not!

I had a test drive of a BMW 335i Coupe last month, thing is I was only looking around the garage as I was waiting on the Mrs picking up her car that was getting serviced at Hyundai.

Her face was priceless when I roared passed and onto the dual carriagway, anyway what a machine the auto box and paddles were brilliant and the thing just flew !

335i Coupe is a dream machine and rivals the Golf R as 'all the car you could ever need'.

Need a big boot for now though! So petrol vRS is as good as it gets!

Silly boy. Test driving such cars is never a good thing. Your own car will now never suffice. I have had a soft spot for big A8's for ages, think my favourite was the S8 in ronin. Loved the look of that car. But then the interior of the next gen A8 after the one in ronin was spectacular, that with the V8 diesel - OMG.

I think you've answered your own question with your original post! Im in the same situation - I can afford to upgrade but really think I'll miss the Yeti's alround capabilites and flexibility. Ive decided to use my monthly car payment fund for making overpayments on the mortgage - oh how old I realise Im becoming! :giggle:

Paying off your mortgage early is probably the single most cost effective thing you can do but its not going to help you attract the ladies. A nice new motor may not either but at least your trying.

A8 3.0 petrol or diesel of about 55 plates are shockingly good value and with a decent warranty should be fairly cheap to run.

But the engine in the 330i is an absolute peach.

If your kids are grown up how about a 630i

The R has 4wd though. I have to say it's fantastic ;-)

The a8 v8 diesel is just about everything I should dislike.... Big, heavy, diesel and 4x4 BUT they really do appeal as a big continent crusher of a motor. S8 is very cool engine but would hate any repair bills.

Only the BMW would make me change, but... and its a big but... you wont get 40+mpg on a 330i, yeh it will sound great for 5 secs but overall stick to what you have you know the car and its history.

I don't think coming on a pro Skoda forum asking for reasons to leave for another manufacturer is really going to give a balanced argument.

I really wanted an A4 S Line or a 320/330d M Sport before I ordered my vRS. In fairness I didn't drive the Audi, but I drove a 320i M Sport and whilst it felt a really well made car, it didn't feel particularly special to be in or look at. I picked a Skoda because the value for money was just too great to overlook.

However, if value for money was not such a consideration, I think both Audi and BMW are more desirable cars.

My dad has a 60 plate A8 Exec, 3.0tdi chosen over the 4.2 tdi because of response and better mpg. 42 function seats, infrared, google maps integration, reverse camera, adaptive cruise, ambient lighting. Its a shame he bought one in silver, black ones look awesome
