Octavia power tuning

Featured Replies

HI,

New to Skoda ownership. Love the car but feel it could do with a touch more power. Have had a quick look though the forums but can't seem to find much on engine tuning.

Is there a steadfast way to see reliable increases? The obvious one is ECU remap. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Would like to see 200bhp+

Car is a 2008 CR VRS.

Thanks.

I think a few members on here have had a Revo map. It's what I'll probably end up going for (so much for ever modify a car again).

There are plenty to choose from and us worth looking on other VAG sites for reviews or comments.

Some will not post openly about remaps as big brother watches.

Welcome to Briskoda. :) There is absolutely loads on here about tuning so continue searching.

Hi,

Found the tuning section eventually but even then the advice seems to be go to either Revo ar Shark for a remap, thats about it.

Are there any other options? What about handling and braking upgrades?

Personally I've used shark for maps and always been spot on, handling wise search for WALKs and rear anti roll bars, or eibach springs and blisteen b12 shocks, or coilovers if you want to adjust the height more and brakes most people seem to go with either porche kits, or mk5 r32's calipers discs etc if you can find them, or just run better discs/pads on the standard 312mm's

sorry new to this, but .cr is that the common rail diesel? if so what about a dtuk tuning box and an induction kit?

Hi there, I have a CR vRS. It was mapped my Motech in Northamptonshire and has been very good. Haven't done a rolling road test, but I'm betting on 200+ bhp, plus it's nice and smooth to drive and has good (perhaps better than standard) economy.

Are you sure it's a Common Rail engine? My previous car was a 2008 model and that was a PD (it felt horrible tuned, so I went back to standard).

Forget induction kits or panel filters, from experience (have had tuned and modified diesels for 10 years+) they make no difference and IMHO, I think tuning boxes are not a very refined solution. An individual map, bespoke for your car is the way to go.

FYI, the ECU is likely to have to come out of your vehicle, and although a little time consuming, is a pretty straightforward job.

Here's a link to Mike's site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.hodder1/index.html (don't know where his usual page has gone!)

Give him a call if you're interested, say that Damian Scott passed you his details and I'm sure he'll do you a great deal on a brilliantly crafted map.

my cars a june 2008 and it has the cr diesel engine in it.

I can't speak for their diesel maps, but I had my Motech map overwritten with an APR map and the car is much better for it.

Disagree about a bespoke remap being best, assuming you are talking about stage 1. Your car isn't bespoke so why does the remap need to be? There's a lot of crap written about custom / bespoke remaps being best because they are tailored to your car but it's not true. The best remaps are the generic maps that the well known tuners have invested time, effort and money in developing and testing to ensure they provide optimal performance within safe tolerances. Don't scrimp on a remap because if the tuner gets it wrong you could be forking out for a new turbo or worse. Far be it from me to promote Revo because most the people I have come across that work for them are cocks and make a lot of over inflated power claims but their maps are really really good and it is difficult to look past them.

How can I check? Not had car long enough to know it.

It was advertised as CR.

If i recall correctly first registered June 2008.

If it sounds like a tractor it's a PD.

The engine covers are different from CR to PD. PD has straight bars, CR has angled. That's the easiest external way to know.

You can also go for the build tag of your car or pull the covers off and look.

Have a look at the Vehicle Data sticker inside the front cover of the service Book, or the same sticker underneath the boot carpet beside the spare wheel, and post the engine code and hp here.

It's certainly more noisy than my Jag!

Will have a look in the service book.

It's got the angled bars on the engine cover.

CR sounds like a tractor, too!!

At least it doesn't clack *quite* as much as my 2.2 CRDi Sorento did!!
