Too early...post `Lifeshine`?

Featured Replies

My car (see left) is coming up for 3 months old now. Prior to delivery it was prepared with `Autoglym Lifeshine`. My question is, is it too early to now give it a couple of coats of SRP followed by a couple of coats of EGP (both applied by hand)?

Many thanks.

Mike.

How is the water behaving on the paintwork once it's been cleaned, rinsed and dried?

I would be suprised if AG Lifeshine was still repelling water 3 months down the line as it's not a particularly durable product and the same could be said for SRP and EGP as a combination.

If your looking for long term durability you would be better spending your time and money on an alternative product IMHO.

It `beads` really well...although I've never quite understood why that is such a good thing! Anyway...as part of the `Lifeshine` I have a load of AG products and it would be daft not to use them up. Once used up, I could then look for a different set of products perhaps. So, the same question really...too early or not?

Many thanks.

If the paintwork is still beading then you still have protection there so unless you really want to apply something then it will be of little benefit.

SRP contains fillers and micro-abrasive's so you will degrade the protection you have on there and only cover the SRP with EGP if you were to apply it.

SRP also has some sealer in the mix..Its really an all in one product.

I dont particularly like it..it can be very powdery and its not a patch on CarLack 68

I think SRP + EG should last 6 months or so before requireing re-application. Nothing will last forever so anything you apply will need redoing eventually. If it's under lifeshine guarentee and has stopped repelling, aren't they suppose to fix it? Then again, I'm sure there is a 'regular maintenance' clause or something which is why they supply you with a kit.

Beading shows that there is a good layer between the outside world and the underlying paintwork. If there is no beading then there is no layer of protection on the paint, therefore anything which comes into contact with it will potentially damage it (such as bird droppings or tree sap)

I think lifeshine lasts quite well done the correct way with the correct maintenance. My dad got over a year out of it with a garaged car.

The new formula srp is good stuff btw. Powdering and durability have both been addressed. For 12 quid I think its a bargain and wont be replacing my werkstat prime as I find srp with its mirco abrasives and masking abilities a much better product. It does need topping though with decent wax. Im not a fan of egp.

No...AGSRP and particularly AGEGP will not last that long, even the new formula is only slightly better

If its regularly reapplied. then fine....most people dont even wash their cars, let alone polish or wax them!!

As said...There are far better products out there...some cheaper as well...CarLack68 being one of them (AIO)

I find it a bit worrying when you talk about `abrasives`. My 3 month old car thats been `lifeshined` surely wont need `abrasives`, will it? I'm really concerned about doing more harm than good... hence the original question about my use of this SRP being too early.

Hi, Chris.

`Clean your car` are currently doing a pack containing Collinite 476s, Carlack68 with pads and cloths. Would you recommend that I forget about the AG products I have and use this pack instead? If so, is it too early to do it on a 3 month old car? I want to keep it in tip top condition no matter what it takes. I'm lucky enough to have loads of time and its garaged every night.

Yes...a great combo

I would but that ..Yes

Did your apprentice turn up Chris ?

I think he did....his car's in the background in the pics.

He couldnt resist :giggle:

So you think its is too early then, Chris.

Okay, but I live in a very rural area and the roads will soon get covered in mud, so my car will get dirty very quickly. I'll just continue to just wash it. When would you say that I could safely do the polishing and sealing?

Do it asap before the clocks change at the end of the month

Did your apprentice turn up Chris ?

Yes the foreman turned up to check on things,

To stick his nose in you mean!! :giggle:

Point out overspray, polish in door handle rubbers, polish on unpainted plastic arches ------------------- :bandit::angel:

You know very well that I hadnt finished when you arrived Alan :moon: :finger:

I completely agree, if you're happy with how the car looks and how it is reacting to water then leave it. Once it starts to look a little grubby after washing and you think it needs a spruce up, a going over with something like carlack and 476s or 845 will do a great job. The abrasives in the new SRP are tiny and won't do any damage though.
