Want a Yeti, but do I wait?

Featured Replies

Firstly, thanks for all the advice that I've found on the site - I hope to be able to contribute sooner or later.

Sorry to open with a need for help, but I'm not qualified to do much else yet. Just had a little one and need something with four doors in the not too distant future. I've pretty much decided on a new yeti elegance 2.0 2WD. Due to second hand prices and liking a few options I'm currently thinking of going for a factory order (dealer claims 3 months at the moment which I could just about tolerate).

However I'm put off ordering due to uncertainty about the potentially imminent facelift. I realise this might be a bit daft, but I don't want to be gutted if the facelift comes out just after I order. If it came out tomorrow and skoda had tinkered with the handling and over-sharpened the looks then I may well just go for the current face anyway and I guess it may be a little cheaper. However, if the facelift came out next week, looked as good and had a DAB radio then I'd be glad I'd waited.

I'd been hanging on for Paris, but no facelift emerged. I'd prefer it if there was no facelift and just the a new model in a couple of years. The dealers are tight lipped and deny all knowledge about a facelift, but this is really just making me think of going for another motor that isn't about to facelift.

Any advise appreciated.

Any facelift at the moment is going to be minor. Certainly from the "spy" photos of the Yetis with a scatter camoflage the only changes appear to be with the front and rear bumpers, and nothing major.

It was interesting to note that the L & K has no changes, so perhaps the above was a spoof!!

I believe it is due end of 2013

My best guess would be no earlier than the introduction of MY14, with vehicles first appearing in the UK at the end of June next year.

Skoda's next project is the Octavia III at the end of this year, with revamps of the Superb and Yeti sometime after that. Believe from what I've read, that other new models (like the Rapid) will be forthcoming along with a new Fabia at some point. Just placed an order for a Fabia and not put off by the thought of a potential replacement later next year or that orders are noticeably dropping back for the current design, as the Fabia II is ideal for our needs.

Hi Rapha, welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new arrival.

You just can't go wrong with a Yeti.

They hold their second hand values really well too

Take the plunge, join the elite and order one. :giggle:

Oh, and Graham, what's L&K please?? I've seen this mentioned a few times and unsure what people are referring too.

L&K = Laurin & Klement. It's like Ghia was to Ford or Vanden Plas was to BL; the luxury top end specification.

Hi Mac,

driving a Skoda and you don't know of L&K :giggle:

I have an elegance on order due in January 2013.

Skoda UK told me the facelift was due December 2013.

I read somewhere that the facelift will iron out the front end to make it smoother and more in line with the rest of the Skoda range therby giving it a 'wider appeal'. Judging by the waiting lists seems to have plenty of appeal as it is!

good things come to those who wait.

I don't think they can improve on the front end. The back is where some styling effort might pay dividends.

The back is the best bit

The back is the best bit

as it disappears off leaving you behind (when in a car other than a Skoda of course!)

The back is the best bit

I'm with you on that. But for me the main Yeti styling problem is the disconnect fore and aft of the A pillar - the styling is more cut and shut of two different vehicles, a stubby, curvy, but potentially interesting car shape to the front and an individual more linear SUV profile to the rear. Personally I'd keep the back and reshape the front to blend better into an overall shape, but it's the mismatch that needs most attention.

i guess it's subjective but to me the front is very distinctive and I love the round fog lights. The back looks like a van. Still, each to their own.

Personal opinion but if Skoda give the Yeti the "corporate" front end - as in new Rapid - then I think it will lose a lot of the singular appeal the current Yeti has. It's distinct front end separates it from the herd of other small crossovers - Tiguan, Quahquai, etc.

Very much my thoughts, Expatman.

+ 2 to that.

A mild corporate facelift in a year or so could make the original even more desirable.

We're on our second Yeti "Classic" now and would have no problem with going for a third, rather than wait for a dubious facelift.

Check out Rainworth Skoda in Mansfield, not too far from you in Derbys, they've been mentioned as doing some good Deals over the years.

If you wait for the facelift, do you then wait for the new model, and then for the new model face lift?

If you want a Yeti go for it, it's been around long enough to get rid of any early adopter problems, then when you change it in a few years the new model will have had any early problems sorted.

Thank you to TP & Weasley.

I did NOT know what L&K was, but I do now. :)

I'm not ashamed to admit this.

Are there any pictures of the face lift SM about yet? My Yeti will be going in August 2014, I am guessing this will be just before the NEW Yeti comes out to replace the facelift version. if you catch my drift?

The new one will be out by then.

It's likely to be the 2014 model year, so building in the factory from around May 2013 and arriving in the UK around June/July 2013.

Even if it's a year later, it's still before your date and the info will be out so you can order one in advance.

If I was thinking of buying a new Yeti now (and had another vehicle to use so i could wait) I'd want to see what the new one is going to look like.

I'd wait for that to be confirmed, then decide to get the facelift or get the current model before they go out of production.

It could only be a few months before the info appears if the facelift arrives on the 2014 model year.

I will wait and see what is around nearer the time and of course the lead times will dictate what I order hopefully another yeti, I know that I am not looking forward to sending this Yeti back as it is great! I will have DSG next time though as I like the box in the VRs Fabia we have.

Thanks for the welcome (Macdemon). Just got back form our first long weekend away with our baby boy which has reinforce the need for something with 4 doors pretty soon. Thanks for the advice - I just need to make a decision now!

I'd certainly recommend Rainworth

Recently tried Rainworth (via Skodastore) while getting quotes for the current Fabia order. A little unhappy with their substantial revision of the initial quoted P/X value from the phone call to the follow up e-mail. Needless to say that move made them quite uncompetitive and our business went elsewhere.
