Slipping clutch will it hold up?

Featured Replies

Neeed some advice....

My clutch slipped,I seem my revs bounce about between about 2.5 - 3k revs the other day when I was pulling out of a junction because a **** on a motorbike flew around a corner towards me I had to floor my car to get away from a situation haha... Car wasn't too warm and it was in third gear when it slipped but I had to floor it to get out of trouble! It hasn't done it again since and I've floored it a few times when warm.

I know I will need a new clutch soon but a new radiator and 4 new tyres left me skint.

My question is... I'm wanting to drive from cumbria to York next weekend and am wondering... Will my clutch hold up fine on a 133 mile journey or not? And then a return 133 mile journey too!

Anyone help? Cheers, jamie

Well it doesn't sound like it's badly worn and isn't slipping all the time as you've said, does it feel ok to operate? Excessively heavy? I think you'll be fine on your trip to York, try to avoid booting it especially below 2k rpm.

Are you sure its slipping?

When they start to go you tend to notice it in 6th first? Mine slipped at full boost in 6th, but didn't slip in any other gear.

Well in not much of a car know it all really but it's done it in third when I booted it from below 2k when cold (my bad, poor Vera VRs) I haven't really hammered it much since its usually hammered at higher revs specially now after it slipped once I don't wanna wear it out too much haha! And we'll it feels a bit heavier to drive then when I first got it but that might be me just thinking it because I'm paranoid it's on it's way out... I'm gonna be getting a new clutch as soon as I can afford too anyways! Bad timing with Xmas and ****e coming up

yer just keep it above 2.5-3k before flooring it you should be ok. just adapt your driving style and you should get a good few miles more out of it.

Yeah cheers mate. I've stopped flooring it much now I'm trying to make it last as long as I can haha

Mine started slipping 3k ago and is still drivable and slips in every gear now done a few long journeys and been fine if you build the power up gradually, but ive bit the bullet and bough a new clutch and flywheel anyway, cg motorsport sorted me out

Keep a eye on it,

When the engines off, stick the car in 4th gear, take your foot off the clutch, start the car!

If the clutch is fine the car will just out, if its slipping it will jump forward!

Yeah I'm gonna get a new clutch and fly wheel and a service when I can afford it! Cheers for the advice lads! :-) and I will try that when I'm next in it trev cheers!

And if your clutch is fine/failing this will ruin it lol :notme:

Mine started slipping at 84k.

It's now at 110k 2 years later on the same clutch and it's no worse...

It's all about how you drive it :)

Not if you do it once every while, standard army test!

Cheers @softscoop :) Ima change my driving style until I decide to get a new one! Hello granda style cheers lads!

No need for grandad style driving.

I abuse mine and it's still fine. :)

I'd highly recommend NOT doing this!

And the army run how many Fabia vRS's ???

;)

Avoid steep hills as well.

Pretty sure you will have no problems.

Also worth checking that your tandem pump on the right side of the engine isn't leaking diesel. This is very common and as the pump is right above the clutch bell housing it is possible for it to leak into the clutch assembly.

Have fun in York. Doing anything nice here?

Phil

Night out with the lads and my mate from UNi. Travelling down Saturday morning / afternoon

  • 5 months later...
