Life shine - is it worth the

Featured Replies

Hi guys/gals,

Still waiting in my Blackline, and still no date, although I do know it's been at Tye port for nearly a week. I paid the £300 (although when haggling for the car they knocked £50 off that) for Life shine and the salesman explained to me what it was.

As the car is white I thought at the time it would probably make it easier to keep clean, is that the case? I've never bothered with it before on any of my other cars, and as the chances are I'll only be keeping the car for 3 years, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

Has anyone took this product and are pleased with it, or vice versa?

No, waste of time & money if you clean the car properly.

Unless your a Dealer then YES

I have it. Not sure if it was worth it or not! I am not the world's most enthusiastic car washer - once every couple of months if it is lucky and when I do wash it then it gleams like a new pin. But would it have done that anyway?!?

You get a big bag of autoglym cleaning products as a bonus.

On balance I don't think I will bother next time.

No total waste of money, it is really just a glass protector, paint protector and a paint sealent, which from what people say is very good if applied correctly, however the products are rarely applied correctly due to the time and money the dealer allows the person who applies teh products, it wont be given a great deal more time or care than the clean it will receive when you collect the car.

Personally, I have never invested in the Lifeshine, last time I bought a new car the dealer gave me the Lifeshine kit as they had too many knocking around and they were just taking up space, so he asked me if I wanted one to take home, I said yes, but its still sat in the garage!

Personally for me the £250 you could use in a couple of ways:

1) Get hold of a local car detailer and ask them to do a new car protection on it, they will lavish the love and care on the car and get the car to a very high standard (most detailers are car enthusiasts) so you get a great finish, they will probably also talk to you about products and how you will look after the car and then use products that will suit your cleaning regime.

2) Go and get a few products yourself and look after it yourself, you can get excellent spray on and wipe finishing products these days so after a wash you can just spray the paint with a sealent, buff and walk away, you dont have to use polishes, waxes and spend hours buffing to end up with arms like Arnie!!! For around £60 or so you could end up with a nice little selection of products that will last a long time, and all that will be needed will be a couple of hours on a Sunday morning every few weeks to get it back to looking good!

3) Just keep the £250 and I dont know if it suits you or not, but £250 saved is a lot of £10 car washes with the local Polish people!!!!

Modern car paints generally are a lot more hard wearing these days compared with years ago, so as long as you look after the paint it should look good for a good few years to come.

I never allow the dealer to even clean the car before collection, I collect it after the wrappers have been taken off at PDI, they dont wash it or nothing, personally I like to spend a day sorting it all out and getting things done to how I like them, granted thats not what the majority of people want to do, but I look at it like this, I have just spent £20K on something, would I rather clean it myself and get it done how I like it or do I let the bloke in the wash bay prep it whos being paid £8 by the dealer? Whos going to look after it better..... I accept everyone has there own views on car cleaning and what suits one person isnt always going to suit others, but that £250 can be spent on the car in so many differnet ways that will imrove and enhance the car so much better in my opinion.

Anyway, good luck on what you do and the most important thing is... enjoy your car!!!

Don't bother for the reasons given above. White is easy to clean as you can't actually see any scratches or swirls that often get introduced by routine cleaning. Black on the other hand is a complete pain in the arse.

Waste of money. If you really want the kit then pay £30 for it online and apply it yourself. At least you know its been done properly. Otherwise do what I did and spend a few ££ on detailing items. You will have these to use for years to come also so good value. Having said that, I have paid out for Lifeshine on two of my cars now but I paid around £60-£80 (cant remember exactly). ONe of the cars was done well, the other wasnt. After that, I bought my own kit and did it myself. :)

Salesmen are on commission to sell you this, just like gap insurance, agree with all the points above, I have mates in the trade as well as someone with his own independent dealership, if you are only going to live 3 months then "Lifeshine" will do. Aurics Goldfingers car had lifeshine on it when he got it, me and Chris fettled his car back to how it should have been, there was no beading on the car and paint was flat, used so much clay on it to remove contaminants http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/252278-ambrosia-has-a-detail/

waste of money and depending which dealer you get it from could actually damage the paintwork (swirlmarks)

i got this "free" on my new Jaguar XF and they did more damage than good

seeing the car was also black the first time in the sun it was apparent that it had not been done properly

i had the car machine polished to get rid of the swirls

it should take them a good few hours to do it properly but as others have said they do it too quick due to time & cost

the pack costs around £30-£40 if that and the rest is for labour and the kickback the salesman gets

I'm going against the grain and say that it is an excellent product. I had it thrown in when I bought my S4, it must have been done properly as the car was gleaming when I picked it up and comes up perfect after a wash - and I am anal when it comes to keeping my cars clean.

Most people who say its crap haven't had it but I was recommended it by a mate and I'd also recommend it.

worth £250 when you can buy it on ebay for £10 + postage?

the products may well be good enough but its the application that causes the damage

These sealants are good products and do work very well if applied well, but in no way are they worth the money.

I know someone with their own valeting company (trading for 15 years) who offers this and he says some of the stuff is actually very good but he has also worked at main dealerships where a car has been in for lifeshine and the technique went like this:

1:Car into workshop

2:Washed & Waxed

3:Left for 1hr (customer waiting)

4:Car driven out to customer who sees a nice shiny car with a FREE bag of lifeshine goodies to top up that beautiful shine.

It's a sales device to make money, pure and simple but many people buy things that cost lots more that they also don't require so if it makes you happy go for it.

Waste of money. Just keep your car clean and buy some decent polish.

Didn't bother with mine.........just paid Midlands Detailing to sort the car out at the dealership before I picked it up - both they and the dealer were great about it.

Car looked awesome (it's on their website)

This stuff is for lazy people i thought half the fun was polishing your pride and joy do the business with maguires or autoglyme it will be just as good.

You still need to wash, polish and wax a car with life shine on it - it doesn't clean itself!

And that's why it's not worth it as you may as well do all that stuff yourself for free.

Like I said in an earlier post most people who think its crap haven't had it I've always looked after my cars and enjoy keeping them clean but with me working away for upto 6 months of the year and my wife being allergic to car cleaning, the life shine is an ideal product for me.

dont hold this against me but i used to sell seats and LIFESHINE !!! you can pick the kits up for about£70 off e bay and do it yourself ,£180 for a polish and to treat the interior is ridiculous, hope this helps

As others no. I've had it on vrs and only cos it was free. You can buy a lot better products and have quite abit of change instead

Had a similar thing done (Shureguard) to our Seat Altea. Can't say I was overly impressed and wouldn't have it done again and like others now use the old 2 bucket system, decent products and saved myself a bundle in the process and as previous you've still got to wash it anyway. A past Which report said it's worth considering if you do loads of motorway miles, but otherwise not recommended. In my view it's just another ploy to get more money out of you.

cheers

Ade

I've worked at a dealership. We used supagard, same **** different name. It's all a load of rubbish. No way does it last longer then two months.
