Finally found LED number plate lights that work

Featured Replies

Its off boost rather than in the wrong gear...I anticipate this and engage 'Sport' when I know its going to struggle

Its just something you get used to

Better still...use the paddles and you wont have a problem at all

However...It might be better to ask this question in the right section rather than an LED lighting thread

  • Changing the "cold warning" option has made no difference at all in the past. Those ones you've linked to look the same as the many, many sets already tried by many, many people - they'll give you a b

  • Confirmed as working on my Blackline with the VCDS mod done. Looks loads better. Anyone got any experience of these GOLF MK6 R20 LED Taillights - Plug&Play Adapters On car systems.eu?

  • This is from a TT, so the Byte and Bit may be different, but the wording will be the same (Bit 6): As you can see it is not active (it was before I changed it) but it still gave a DIS (maxidot) err

ChrisRs, admittedly a bit of a deviation off topic, oops. (gearbox should still be better than that though!! but point taken :) )

It was dead easy fitting them mate. Just trimmed the red wire a bit shorter with pliers and clamped one end of it to one of the wires that goes to the led, and other end to other. Fold the splice clips over, stuff them back up into the boot and hey presto :)

Do you have a pic of this as i don't have a clue what to do ha!

If u go onto Fizzmo's shop at e-bay and click on the LED i bought, there is a link in the text that goes on about how Skodas and VAG cars will need load resistors. Click on that to the load resistor product and in the text there is a 'click here' link which is a diagram to show you how. If u pull the bulb holder out of the boot and just clip one end of the load resistor to one of the bulb wires and the other end to the other mate :)

Pulled the bulb holder out but it just has the plastic bit that clips in to the holder. Can these wires be pulled out or do i need to pull something from inside the boot? Not wanting to pull and snap the wrong wire.

There will be two wires that lead to the actual bulb holder. They may just need a little encouragent to come out a little from within the boot section, don't pull too hard and you should be totally fine. It's those wires that your load resistors will clip onto.

AHHHHHH!

Got the left one all done and tidied away without needing a cut the wire and then onto the second and the red clip isn't holding the restrictor wire in place and the buld aint working.

I put the lights on with 1 LED and 1 normal and i got a warning light on the dash, is this because it's two different bulbs or because it's being a **** and not working for me? lol.

Just fitted my resistors easy peasy no bulb warning on dash

Just fitted my resistors easy peasy no bulb warning on dash

Lucky you lol!

Got my replacement bulb today after the last 1 was faulty and i still get the dash warning light and i've tripple checked that the resitrors are connected correctly with the metal touching the metal etc and still get that warning light on the dash.

Is it just me but I don't understand why everyone is going to so much trouble to fit led number plate bulbs? The oe ones look good but the aftermarket one's that I've seen appear far too bright. In fact half the time there brighter than the taillights on some of the cars I've seen. Why do you need really bright number plate lights? More worthwhile would be to try and do the led taillight conversion like the chinese models.

I just got my amazon leds yesterday. They have a resistor pack and heatsink. Bit pricy but its doing my head in!

Sliceman do you have a picture of how you done it as i'm 100% sure mine is all correct and that the metal bit is holding onto the wires fine but i still get the dash light!

  • 1 year later...

Holy thread resurrection.

The Mk3 will be a different beat to be fair.

"Any old LED's" worked in the Octy 2 for ages and then suddenly there was an issue, and then a year later the issue went away again.

So it's a select few Octy 2's from around 2010-2012, all the rest and you should be able to use any LED's you find.
