Finally found LED number plate lights that work

Featured Replies

I have made the change as per the screen shot so just need to get the OP's LED's (mine is a Blackline too so looks like I am on to a winner). :whew:

  • Changing the "cold warning" option has made no difference at all in the past. Those ones you've linked to look the same as the many, many sets already tried by many, many people - they'll give you a b

  • Confirmed as working on my Blackline with the VCDS mod done. Looks loads better. Anyone got any experience of these GOLF MK6 R20 LED Taillights - Plug&Play Adapters On car systems.eu?

The seller has now sold out, maybe option two might work that I suggested.

Same on mine, error light popped up on dash.

I've got VCDS though so will look at coding the LED light in next few days to see what that does.

Did you try it, what were the results?

As you can see it is not active (it was before I changed it) but it still gave a DIS (maxidot) error on a MY11 car.

Have tried this long ago. Didn´t resolve de issue.

Still have the resisters over 2 years ago.

For info, heres the byte / bit I ticked on my car. Byte 17, Bit 7 from 0 to 1

Now that is interesting, I have not seen that one before this is the TT's Byte 17:

TT09Byte17.jpg

As you can see there is no Bit 7, I will have to see what manually changing the Binary code does.

I have the same P/N 1K0 937 087 AD but not the LED option. saying that as I have the Blackline there is no coming home function or xenons.

What version of VCDS are you using?

Maybe if the first binary character is changed from zero to one then it may work (just not listed in the bit list)?

I'm using 11.11.4

The led number plate option has only appeared on this version as was not there on the last. free update from Ross Tech

Seems the option appears in 11.11.4 so the binary should be able to be edited.

you beat me too it.

Had a quick look tonight and as Im not overly good with it, I decided to leave it be.

Error popped up as you'd expect but on the coding side I could seem to get the tick boxes up as on the screen dump above.

My brother said he'd have a look at it this week, failing that he'll build some that will.......result for me either way ;-)

OK, so I bought these and fitted them today. As expected the error light came straight on however I can confirm that when Bit 7 on Byte 17 is enabled on my controller (same as OP) then the error light disappers and so far after 30minutes driving no errors have appeared.

I just went out and did the Byte-17 Bit-7 thing and my front DRL (non-vrs ) turn off.

Did not check the plate leds for error.

Did anyone check the front leds on the VRS after change, if they are on.

Strange as that bit only mentions number plate LED's. Did you check the controller part against our newer 2012 cars?

The front LEDs remain lit and operate as normal when you change byte 17

I agree this may be a 2012 thing.

Doesn't work on a 2009 model, looks like its onky the newer models.

Just to confirm I did 300 miles today with no errors.

So basically what we have is:

Pre-FL - CanBus LED's. Will work fine, just install and go.

FL (2012-on) - LED's fine so long as you have VCDS access to tell the car you're using LED's.

FL (Up to 2012) - Resistor packs or putting a standard bulb "in line" is your only option.

Tried the ‘new’ VCDS coding (Byte 17 Bit 7) and I still get an error on a MY11 TT (not tried the Superb as I imagine it will be the same)

It looks like 2012 cars have an updated controller, can someone post up a scan of their 2012 car so we can see the controller that is fitted.

Don’t know why I didn’t look there :giggle:

FWIW a (manual) MY11 Octavia vRS I scanned uses 1K0 937 087 J, so it is indeed different to the AD controller that xpower has fitted.
