Ps Vita owners. Am i the only one?

Featured Replies

Bought one of these bad boys a while ago as it enables me to enjoy some gaming as the old xbox doesnt get the same attention it once enjoyed since the arrival of our wee girl. Gaming on the vita in the lounge in the company of the wee one, the other half and the dog has to be at least slightly more sociable than spending hours upstairs in the spare room with the headphones on playing the xbox.

Problem is there is hardly any decent games. Ive been playing old PSP games downloaded of PSN. Thsi could all change next week with the arrival of Assassins Creed 3 Liberation. I decided to pre-order it for vita rather than AC3 on xbox. Hopefully it will resemble the real thing as i love AC in general.

Any one else in a similar boat or am i really the only one with a vita?

I did consider one at some point but decided in the end to just get a graphics card update for the PC for my gaming fix.

I then use a cheap 7" android tablet for my casual gaming fix.

It is surprising the lack of games released for the new hardware.

Phil

PS Vita has been a big flop for Sony, they just cannot sell them. I have an XBOX in the lounge, and for casual gaming use my iPhone4.

The PSP was a success because at the time nothing else was really around that matched its performance, PSP GO did not do so well and the same is now happening with the PS Vita. Sony have recently closed one of their main games developers, so the future for the Vita is not looking great which will also hit sales.

I'll pick one up second hand next year when the price has plummeted. Plus, I can't really justify paying a full retail price for a mobile game...

Hopefully the lack of good games will improve soon. Its a pity as i enjoy my gaming vut cant justify sitting alone upsatirs for hours. There isnt any other handhelds out there that offer the same perfromance as the vita. The new assassins creed game for it looks amazing so its definately capable of doing what i want it to do but all the power is no use if there are no games for it.

Its a pity microsoft didnt make a good handheld as im an xbox man at heart and sony seem to have little love for their products once there released or certainly seem to with the vita.

Im into the more hardcore games so ipad's and the like dont cut it so i pretty much dont have many options. The DS is a kids thing so thats not an option. Seems to be a hole in the market but then if all handheld console sales are poor why should anyone bother their arse trying to compete. Pity really as if the vita had some competition then maybe it would stimulate them to support it more.

I very nearly did buy one but when I saw only Sony memory cards worked and were expensive I gave it a miss. Bought a Nexus 7 for my parents and some of the games are fantastic, better than you get on some consoles

Certainly not better than a vita or xbox 360. Ive seen smatphone games and their very good for what they are but in no way can be compared to a dedicated gaming handheld or console. There is no way on earth a smartphone could run a game like assassins creed with up to 20 hours of play content at the graphical levels a vita can. Its not possible.

Smartphones produce sharper graphics than a wii or a DS but even these units can wipe the floor with a smartphone in terms of game content i.e you couldnt get a fully fledged RPG game with a play time of 20 hours plus crammed onto a smartphone.

The best ive seen was infinity blade but this is so basic and is a really small game that you just repeat over and over again untill you beat the main boss character. Looks amazing but in reality is very very limited as is the case with all "casual"games.

Not slagging them off as casual gaming is a popular market in its own right but its not for me.

What i want is my xbox experience on a handheld. Vita does this but just lacks support at the moment.

Myson has Vita and loves it, he plays mainly F1 and Football games and from what I've sen him playing it is stunning.

Funny uou mentioned Infinity Blade. I think all that is missing in this game is a bit of story, more involvement than sujt fast fingerwork. It is stunning visually, not far off PSP and Vita but lacks in playability - get boring really quickly.

There are some really good racing games on the iPhone (GT Free+ or something) and some good MMORPGS, like Haypi Kingdom and Throne on Fire (too addictive as it has really great community system and very engrosing clan wars etc. - had to stop playing as it was taking too much of my time when I started running clans on multiple servers lol).

Problem with Vita is its price tag, exclusivity of memory cards (aren't tere any adapters on the market yet?) and realtive lack of titles.

This type of gaming platform flourishes when economy is doing well...

As for Gaming and spending time with the family, it just doen't work for me, one or the other. We do have time together with kids on the Wee from time to time but only because we can all do it together.

I did look at them when they came out but can't justify the price. I did end up buying a sega game gear for £20 tho. I've been playing that most nights recently, whilst charging batteries up the other nights!

Thats a blast from the past. Used to love playing sonic on that bad boy.

Haha! I had one of those once.

It was a right monster and, as you say, loved to eat batteries!

Phil

Yep! I've had some rechargeable batteries charging for 2 nights, determined to complete sonic 1 tonight!

I bought a Vita as I loved the PSP and I love the Vita just as much. I agree with the fact that the games recently haven't been up to scratch. I love Uncharted and recently bought Gravity Rush, which is amazing. For me it's the screen that clinches it. However the DS/3DS titles haven't really been that good either, I had a 3DS for a year and only bought 3 games, chipped it all in (plus a couple of PS3 games) for the Vita with GAME and got the Vita, memory card and a game without parting with too much cash so worked out fine.

I bought Vita 3G off ebay with 16gb card, three games and paid £150 me thinks.

Retail price is ridiculously high!

I only have a 4gb card but it does me fine at the moment sseing as there are not many games anyway. Not looking forward to buying a larger memory card though as they are not cheap. As long as some good games come out for it then i wont mind these annoyances so much. Fingers crossed for assassins creed 3. From what ive seen and read about it, it should be a winner. I loved assassins creed 2 and revelations on my xbox so this should offer the same experience .

Don't have a Vita but I'll be getting this for the Xbox. Looks to be a slight departure from the previous ones so I hope the new setting for it works (I loved Red Dead Redemption and there seem to be more than just a passing resemblance ;)).

The only thing I care about with games is that they are fun to play. Graphics don't have to be HD or have an online aspect just fun and reasonably prices. Plenty of Android games are free and for £180 the Nexus 7 was a no-brainer since it doesn't only play games. I like some of the ideas of the Vita but if I want serious gaming I have a PS3 for that.

I got a PS3 for my son last xmas and a PS Vita for his birthday , the trouble is very few games for the VITA , but what a great bit of mobile kit,, if you just got FIFA13 for PS3 @£43 are you going to spend £33 for the same game on VITA I think not

great bit of kit for the kids in the car , software far to much!

The vita has potential but with Sony behind it.the thing will flop. They just ain't interested in making games for the thing. Sony are only concentrating on the ps4 as they really want to launch before Microsoft's next Xbox. But in usual sony style they will probably make it difficult to delelop for and suffer because of it. Where as the next Xbox will be similar to programme for due to it being very similar to pc's

I agree casual gaming is very popular, probably more so than hardcore gaming but its not for me. I have an xbox but i wanted something i could play in the lounge and at least be able to converse with the missus, dog and wee one to a certain degree rather than locking myself away in the games room. Or spare room as she calls it. What would she know.

You missed a bit in your reply - Nexus 7 isnt a smart phone, it is a tablet!! :p

As the saying goes... Keep taking the tablets!

And your point? The tablet is for casual browsing for anyone in the house who wants to use it. It's an easy way of getting my parents using the Internet plus the games and apps are great too. My phone, an old HTC Desire I now only use as a phone. There's very few apps on in, certainly no games and it is only used as a phone. Besides the Vita isn't exactly small either and would take up just as much space as a Nexus 7 would.

With a number of Android devices play station approved and Sony launching their mobile/tablet store any moment this will be the last Sony handheld console surely?

Especially if they dont support it. Its early days yet so im still hoping they do. It will come down to money ultimately. If they can make more by expoiting the casual gaming market why bother catering for hardcore gamers especially considering they already do anyway with the PS3.

What we need is a handheld device that works like a laptop with a docking station. Would serve as your main console when connected up at home to the TV but could be unplugged and played as a handheld when on the move. Vita isnt a million miles away from being powerful enough to do this so maybe in a few years? Again im kinda kidding myself as im expecting sony and microsoft to cater to my individual needs but it would suit me down to the ground. Maybe the smartphones and tablets will be capable of running hardcore games in a few years but ultimately they dont offer the control scheme a proper handhels console does. Touchscreens are only any use for casual games and are frickin useless for proper gaming.
