Hybrid/Big turbo owners - help!

Featured Replies

Hi, im not a big poster on here, more of a lurker lol.. I recently went with the GTB1756 turbo on my Polo and am having a bit of difficulty keeping the engine cool.

When the engine gets very hot i have the coolant light come on the dash. Looking around the coolant tank there is fluid everywhere and the level has dropped right to the bottom.

This has happened quite alot recently.. I let it cool down overnight and top it up with water in the morning. All is fine till it gets super hot and the same thing happens again.

Ruled out the headgasket but so far ive had the waterpump and coolant tank changed but its still happening.

My real questions to the Hybrid/Big turbo owners is - does this ever happen to you? Is it perhaps the SEAT sport intercooler covering the radiator thats not allowing it to cool efficiently?

Got a couple more things to try yet and im sure it will get sorted, i just wondered if anyone else is/was in a similar boat?

Any advice or suggestions would be a great help!

Thanks

Tom

Mine use to do this every time I gave it a gd spanking and it turned out to be a air lock in the system mate

I`m running a hybrid & SS intercooler, no issues with temps here

Assuming you are giving the car a sustained "tuning" ( West(ern) Glamorgan venacular...) when this is happening....

Loss of water could be quite serious. Possibly worth getting it checked out for head gasket problems at the same time as getting the coolant refilled "professionally". Plus get it up in the air with the undertray off and look for "pinkness". The VAG coolant has a telltale marker (pink).

Thanks for the replies guys!

Dav-Vrs : Wouldnt an airlock have been forced through by now? Its boiled over quite a few times (probably nearly 20 times!) and i thought that would clear it?

vindaloo : Yeh i had it checked for the headgasket and its ok. Its definitely pink fluid that goes everywhere too. It literally boils over through the cap and covers that side of the engine bay! I top it up, the tank fluid goes back to pink and off i go till next time lol..

Always very stable on the temp.

^ i forgot to add, the temp gauge never moves past the middle. Always dead centre but i have had it plugged in when hot and its more like high 90's..

Sticking thermostat maybe?

Try removing thermostat and running it. If no different and you have fitted waterpump id suggest head gasket or cracked cylinder head.

Seen simlar problems before try a new cap we done this a few months back with a customers car having over heating problems turns out it was that. Think it was £6 or somthing from Tps :)

Could be sticky thermostat tho as southy said
